Lil' get together
« on: December 07, 2012, 03:48:40 PM »
So I've been collecting SAKs (alox, in particular) for a bit over a year now. Yup, started at the end of 2011, bad time, a bit late to the party, I know... From all my SAKs (not that impressive at all in SAK collection terms) there is a group that for me sits at the top: the old(er) 93 mm alox. Here they are, at this day in time - there are few others of them that are not shown in here and the group may still continue to grow in the future, but here are they now.

A summary:

- No Soldiers in this group (not completely missing from my collection but not shown here).
- Eight brass lined ones (not counting in the custom) and eight marlinspikes.
- Oldest year marking on a blade: '85.
- Nothing unusual, just standard factory models (except the custom, of course). Still missing a Pioneer 2223 of the era and couple of other more common models.
- All are like new except for brass patina.

lot of marlin spikes in there!

Thanks both!

About the spikies: here are only the red ones shown, there are quite a bit more in the family wrapped in newer styles and/or different color scales. Maybe next there will be a get together of them all marlinspikes :D

Thanks everybody. It's really no big deal. I just wish I would have noticed these red alox earlier, for many years I was hapily using SAKs without care or much knowledge about these alox beauties, at the time current production and many times cheaper than today. Oh, well..

Two larger size photos from the same series, let's see if it works here:

I'll follow up a bit with some more or less closer photos of these SAKs and some of their brothers as they gathered together over the time of this year. Spread over several posts because of the limit of four attachments per message. Some of these photos I posted before on this forum, some are firsts.

In the beginning:

More (some BRWs starting to appear, but they are not the main subjects here, maybe for another thread; included here for their red color):

More, including a beautiful BSA Pioneer (with old style heavier and unpolished tools and without ring) that occupies a special place in my - may I say, because this it is in serious SAK collections terms - small collection:

More, in beautiful plain silver as well.

The last one is of a used Electrician not included in the group photos, blades and backsprings permanently etched flat gray with lemon juice for fun.

More. The MiniChamps are in just because the photo happens to contain the small old red alox, please try to ignore them  ::) This one was also not included in the group photos (of only 93 mm).

And the customized old Pioneer. This one was beautiful, new and unused condition as the others however suffered of a factory defect: wrong backspring resulting in lateral blade wobbling. So custom it became and ten times more beautiful (and no wobble anymore too):

More oldies customized. Blue Electrician (again unsuited for the family as it was, thus redressed and made many times better than it was):

And for the final a few more with the old red customized Pioneer (both customs shown here are the work of Robert / Syph007).

It's a slippery slope...   they aren't known as "SAK crack" for nothing!
