The Fanboys would disagree - if it's got the Leatherman name on it, it's the best thing ever  ::)

For well adjusted people with their eyes and ears open, many would agree that it's a real ugly bugger  :D I think there will be benefits of it for some people, but I think it also loses a lot in comparison with other tools - and claiming it's "new" and the first fully OHO tool is just garbage.

It's a very eco-friendly (lots of recycling  ::) ) design

I think it missing too many tools for me to edc but I do think it is the first oho tool. No other tool allows every implement to be opened one handed.

I do however think it's the first "pliers based" all OHO tool. Granted LM never says it that way, but I think that's the implication.

I suppose since members were trying to vote for it last year (before it was even released!), the Rebar is the clear winner this year!  The number two position is firmly held by the OHT followed by the Dime and CRKT Tool.

Congratulations once again to Leatherman for winning the ultimate prize, the Multitool.org Multitool Of The Year!

To honor the Rebar, it will ride on my belt today.  Though the Dime is still #1 on my list, based on my minimalist worldview.

If you aren't in it for the awesome plier head, it's easy, and often less expensive to get the Rebars from members who have used the plier head in their assorted frankentide wavecharges, and have them either put the regular pliers in it, or your own if you have one. I got a rebar for an amazing deal from breezy12 (thanks again!) On a set of rebar handles with tools, as i had a lm plier head kicking around, and even the regular one is awesome.

Or, looking at it a different way: If it isn't the best thing ever, it doesn't get the Leatherman name put on it.

I am surprised that the new improved Schrade Tough Tool that was extensively destruction tetsted by MT.Org at last year's SHOT was not included in the poll!! Maybe I see some negative bias here by the poll maker??

That wasn't new or improved.  It was "new" several years ago when production was moved to China but it wasn't new or significantly changed this year.  And I think they should charge more for that one since Bob "modded" it.  It could be the J-Sews Signature Edition... or maybe Fingerprint Edition since the metal was so soft his fingerprints are probably embedded in it.

I wish I had seen this poll sooner so I could have placed my vote for the Rebar, although it doesn't look like it needed my help to win ;)

The Rebar has been my favorite this year (alongside the Swisstool Spirit, but that's not a 2012 release).  If I had to choose between them, I'm not sure which I would pick.  I think it would depend on my mood and whatever I would think of for potential uses that day.  Both are awesome IMO.

Congratulations to the Rebar  :drink: Even factoring in for inevitable fanboy votes who would have voted for it even if it fell apart in a light breeze (and no doubt some undeclared LM employees too) it's certainly a runaway winner  :tu:

It's a shame the Dime didn't get more recognition though, it's a belter of a tool considering it's size, and also a pity more people aren't giving the Balance a try. Probably too frightened of discovering they actually like a Gerber tool  :D

The funny thing is that while Leatherman may have taken the top two spots, I think this is more a recognition for Gerber than Leatherman.  After all, the Rebar copied the replaceable cutter head from Gerber, the OHT copied the sliding head plier concept from Gerber (and the "all one handed operation" from Buck!  :P) and Gerber legitimately took the #3 spot with their own, original design.

From a certain point of view, this one-two win for Leatherman is actually a one-two-three win for Gerber!  :P

If someone copied my design, and was more popular, i dont think thats a win for me.  But are the LM sliding pliers just as good, better, or worse than the gerber ones?  The only thing stopping me from picking up a OHT is that there is no Stainless steel option, I dont care for BO'd tools.  I do like the rebar though and its a nicer tool than any gerber I ever handled.

Very true.  As a former "Fanboy" who was shown the light of Gerbers(by Def), I am extremely disappointed in Leatherman as of late.  The last true original idea they had was the Skeletool/Mut/Style models, which are neat.  Even the Wingman and Sidekick copied a lot of features.

I still love Leatherman tools and carry one every day, I must admit that I don't care to buy much of anything "new" they've put out.  I will stick with the oldies until I can't find them any more.  Maybe a new Gerber MP400 or 600 would make me feel better?   :D

I've been a bit hard on LM for some time now, because I keep getting examples that had terrible QC. My Skeletool was one of the most disappointing multi's I've ever owned in terms of quality. I really thought that things were looking up with all the new models though, and was really excited for some of them, it's saddening that the consensus seems to be shifting slightly towards the negative on a lot (but not all) of their newer stuff.

On the other hand, Gerber, which I have never been able to stand, looks to be really upping their game of late. I completely ignored the Dime, because Gerber, but from what everyone has been saying on this thread I'm beginning to think I may have to check one out one of these days. Perhaps it's getting to be time I give Gerber another shot? Maybe it is.

I was a Swiss fan boy and carried a Swiss tool from 98 to 2004 or 2005 when the new style waves came out. My point is, I was a Swiss fan boy and I switched to leatherman edc because, for my needs, leatherman made a better product. The rebar I have is amazing. So props to leatherman. I am also trying to be objective. I usually edc a couple tools. Right now it is a Swisstool. So I try to be fair before making judgement. IMO the balance, which I have used, is not a well built tool, however, that is for my uses. The plier pivot is too thin for serious work. The same is true for the juice line. I do not edc them either.

My point is I think leatherman makes a superior product and I am proud of their work.
As for gerber, I like the strata and mp600st. So IMO they are making some good tools also. As a side note, I did not like the dime at first but reviews here and conversations got me to continue my edc of it, and I quite like it.
