Apps or browser
on: January 10, 2013, 10:48:22 AM
I would like to know whether you prefer apps or a browser on your tablet or phone?

On my iPhone I think I prefer apps for news sites and forum browsing just because the format seems easier to see on a small screen.

On my ipad I am starting to view more (like this forum) because the screen is bigger and I think it looks better than tapatalk.

I have heard some people say that they won't use apps at all because of the permissions some of them use.

So, apps or browser and why?

I'm all browser, but mainly because I only use this site on my PC, not my tablet or phone.

App on forum, tapatalk. When I need to see a quote or something like it I open it in a browser. Everything else I use the browser.

Browser if I have to use the phone (but prefer PC/laptop whenever possible). I have tried tapatalk and don't like it at all

I really do like the Tapatalk app myself. I don't like the image posting methods used on the browser format. They're not bad methods (Photobucket or Flickr), just not one I prefer. I like how I can just take a picture with my phone and upload directly to Tapatalk and not hooking up my camera to the computer then transfer to Flickr then to here  way to much work IMO  Anyone have a simpler method for this? I'm all ears  :tu:

 Are we only discussing the Tapatalk app vs the browser or just apps/ browsers in general? If the latter, I am an app fan :tu:

Didn't fancy Tapatalk myself, so use the browser (Mercury) on my iPhone when I need to. Otherwise I'm on laptop.

I like the browser on my tablet for most things, but there is some good apps for quick reference. I have started using the browser on my phone more then my apps, but I don't use my phone for work like alot of folks.

I use a browser, both on phone and conventional computer. Tapatalk feels... Well, I don't like it.

(And why go through Flickr even if you're using a browser? Just upload the files directly to the forum. Press "Attachments and other options" below the text editing area, and you'll get an image upload thingie.)

Never noticed that before  That's way more convenient than Flickr  I still have the minor headache of shooting then hooking up to the computer though.

Yeah, that's a valid point. I actually usually just mail stuff to myself from the phone to transfer between phone and computer. I'm lazy...

I should get the wifi remote for my Rebel. That may fix(?) my issue there  If I hook the camera up while I'm shooting, the camera will transfer the image immediately  Still pulling out all the equipment to do one or two images  I like LOVE convenience!¡!

I'm an app fan. I prefer apps in general, and see them as the future of computing. For forum browsing, I absolutely adore Tapatalk.

It depends on the app.  I've come to despise Tapatalk, actually.  I hate the way it works.

That said, I'm also going to try Mercury on my iphone, because I'm getting sick and smurfing tired of waiting for Mobile Safari to reload the page every single time I change tabs!

Safari's awful.... having no probs at all with Mercury on mine. Happy I switched from Atomic too, which is also very good in comparison.

I find it very Nice To Read forums, for the rest, I find mobile safari to be more  than sufficient.

I don't care for the Tapatalk as much as I do a browser but I tend to go to Tapatalk for posting images

On the Safari thing; I don't use it much on my iPhone, so it doesn't bother me much

I haven't had any problems with it at all. I don't think there are any "oh wow" upgrades, but it works well.

I use Tapa talk for all my mobile forum needs.  I also have the eBay and YouTube apps, Wired news, End gadget and Discovery News apps but for general web surfing I use the guilty in browser, which is Chrome on my Nexus 7.

I use apps for quite a few things, but often find that there is some functionality that they just don't have and need to go to the browser.
Like, for example, paying for multiple items from a single eBay vendor in one transaction (how hard can that be?) and you even have to force it to the "classic" site not m.ebay.com.

Browser of choice... Dolphin on my Samsung Galaxy S3.
