You know I gave this more though and my EDC doesn't actually change for off day carry.  I may switch out a tool or try different combinations but the BASE of what I like to carry is still represented.  My work EDC is very stable because I know more of less what I'll need and will add a layer if I feel like it.

My off day carry is fluid right now mainly because I have been testing out carry options.  I like to have a plier layer, SAK layer, light, PFAK, Moleskine pad, pen.
Whether I choose to carry my Juice S2, Wave, JPST, or some plier based MT paired with my Swisschamp, Explorer, Deluxe Tinker, or Tradesman my BASE is the same.  I will add a dedicated knife if I feel like it.  I'm liking my JPST and Swisschamp off day pairing at the moment but that's subject to change.

I have many knives that I like, but I can not take all day ... that is a luxury problem-

My real EDC is a little Midnight manager.

Then I'm self-modifications. Finished work are always with at least one day.

Also, I've always a few knives in the rotation. I decide what I take in the morning spontaneously. I use different knives for different activities. For working days, for parties, for travel, for outdoor ...
If you want to be happy, be.

For me, I am pretty consistant in my work EDC. I switch EDC often when not working.

Most things get carried daily for months, even years without change. Some get swapped every now and then. Usually the SAK or multi gets swapped every few weeks of so to give others a chance to play or to try out a new tool.

^---This

But I sometimes wonder I might have carried the same things too long that I might have forgotten they exist in my pocket when needed.  Something that I tend to carry for a very long time, but never get to use it...and when I need it, I do have to recall having it in pocket.

For example, I do have a little Ti whistle on keychain, but how often do I use it?  Does that happen to you guys?

I think there are several who have EDC items that rarely if ever see any usage.  The next thing is they are left behind and as life goes you are in a situation where that item is needed.  I posted recently "If you carry it, Use it" to remind myself and others to use your EDC.  I understand not blowing the whistle randomly but in terms of tools go for it.  My roommate fumbles with her EDC when she needs it because it's not used often.  Put those tools to work and when or if you REALLY need them not only will you instinctively know where they are but be familiar with the tools capability.  Just my 2c

Not me. If I carry it, I use the hell out of it. I hate having to walk clear across building, or the farm or the green just for one screwdriver, or one wire that need cut, or anything simple.

It stays the same. With the Skinth I ordered it is going to stabilize further. I use the rest at home or keep them to pass them to my kids when they show interest.

I think that's the dilemma for EDC items, that either you carry what you will habitually need, or in my case, I also carry some essential items that I need for emergency.

For example, there are quite a few items that I do carry daily, and I consider more or less for emergency use only: whistle(on key chain), emergency money(separate from wallet),  Fresnel lens card(for reading in case glasses is lost and small prints), emergency usb/sd card reader, a small scale ferro rod and a quik tender, single led+3V battery, ~300mg aspren, imodium...all these in a small Altoids tin.

Do I really need these on a daily basis, no.  But are they good for emergency, probably.

I think i'm going outside the box of my normal EDC. I feel like i'm in a rut and need something different to mix it up a bit.

I need a pair of these bad. I've been having to use the old Apple earbuds, because the new style fall out of my ears every ten seconds.
Thank you for posting this Serena. I didn't know they existed.  :tu:

Good question.

*Philosopher's hat on*

Maybe if it's carried for more than a couple of days before changing?

How about rotation where the same items get cycled over the course of a week?

What about if 90% of your carry is the same and you only change up part of it?

Should we call it something other than EDC if we don't carry the same thing all day every day?

Now that i use the EarSkins the EarPods don't fit in their case anymore. Had come up with something new. So I put them in the little round case where a photo camera film comes in. I have absolutely no idea how to call that in Eglish… :(

I think you mean a film canister? Those are handy but hard to find now that everything is going digital. Can't remember the last time I saw film or bought film...

Yes, it changes. Today I carry my Spartan, it's been a while since I've done this. I'm always thinking of ways to carry less stuff but still be able to solve any situation I'm faced with.

I think this is a pretty common reason our load-outs and kits change. The urge to refine and improve without sacrificing capability. It's tricky for sure.

I've gone through many iterations of carry and tried many more tools/items. Experience has led me to narrow down my preferences and typical situations and refine my carry appropriately but I am still far from locked in to a final setup.

Yep, that's what I meant. Happened to have two of these canisters lying around…

The way I see it, "every day" is just that--every day.  Now, of course, you might replace something in your EDC because it improves functionality, looks better, whatever.  That item becomes EDC as long as you carry it every day from that point forward.  The item it replaces, therefore, is no longer EDC.

I guess I just have a hard time calling something I might carry once or twice a week or hell, even 6 days a week "every day carry".  It just doesn't make any sense.

I just call it "today's carry", because it's likely to not be the same tomorrow.

Just musing on the fact that we use the term 'EDC' for something that is flexible and for most/some of us changing on a very frequent basis.

I tend to just call it my load-out as that is what is on my at that point in time. Still working towards that perfect setup though... ;)

Mine is so fixed that I only ever wear Wrangler cargo pants so that I always have the same pockets.

I made several paracord bracelets I rotate between of different stitches and constructions.  Sometimes I don't wear a bracelet or my watch.  I'm also inconsistent with how many quarters I have on my person.  As for tools, lights, keys, lighter, pen, marker and wallet?  Same things, same places, every day.

I'll swap something out if I'm trying out a new make/model.  I carried my Wingman for the first week I owned it, for example. But I mostly return to the arrangement I'm carrying today.
My EDC:
Leatherman Skeletool   Led Lenser P3 AFS P
Leatherman Style CS    "Fauxton"
Sharpie Twin Tip           Bic Mini

For me EDC is in the strict sense: What I carry every day.

So in my case:
I have a Classic on my house keys, they go everywhere I go. I also edc a Climber since Dezember, it rides always in a pocket, es well as mobile phone and wallet.

What I don't call EDC is my LM PSTII: I have it in my rucksack. So I don't take it with my for shopping in the mall or a small walk. But I will take it with my on weekend trips to the parents, when I go to university, when I expect to have some work to do. It is more the expansion of my EDC.

I also own a OH Trekker I only pack when walking in the forest or expecting gardening work (my father is unable to say announce this beforehand, so it always rides with the PST to my parents). Sometimes I will carry it several days in a row, but that does not make it my EDC.
