Does anyone own a Mike Horn RangerGrip?- advice needed
on: February 11, 2013, 09:52:02 PM
I quite like the unique style of serrated blade that appears to be offered only on the Mike Horn Rangergrip.
Given the news of wengers demise I am sorely tempted - however, I am almost certain I read some place (but cannot find again) that the non-serrated blade, apart from being non-locking suffers badly from a weak back spring. I suppose I could simply buy and return later but given that would quite easily be a 2-3 week turnaround I'm not that keen.

anybody??
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

The Mike Horn serrated blade has an excellent backspring.  Be aware!  Don't try to use it as an ersatz saw.  The serrations cannot take that sort of sawing action.  I had to buff up mine after trying to saw through a small branch.

Good knife!  (Better for right handers)

Hey Whippy

I knew the serrated blade was okay - it's the straight edge blade that I hear is weak??

Doh!

The PE isn't weak per se, but it doesn't have the "lock" feel of the Vic 91's or the Wenger 85's.

I've never found it to be a problem in terms of folding during use.

It's a big knife, but really handy.  I wish it had a saw on it though.

Never could figure why Mike Horn doesn't want a saw out there in the bush..

He probably carries a folding saw in addition to a knife.  I know I would.

Wenger may have the best saws on a folding knife but they are nothing compared to a dedicated saw, and when you use one as often as he probably does then I imagine he'd like the most effective one he could carry.

hi

serrated blades is not to be used cutting wood or sawing in my mind, this is interesting however, serrations is great for rescue or safety blades, the curved point and lock makes a rescue blade,
