latest episode on Discovery had them looking at what to do if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere and have to spend a night in a snow-bound car.  One thing they did was to rig up a metal box over a candle to melt snow, to punch some holes in the box the presenter used a Gerber Suspension.

The idea was to have three strings (one to the rear of the car, one each out to the grab handles over the front doors) holding the box up in the air and having the candle underneath to warm the snow.  They claimed it was some sort of 'official' advice given to Canadians?  Seemed to work anyway.

Why would I have to melt snow?  I think if I'm in the car overnight I probably won't die of thirst.

Plus, where the heck am I going to get a metal box if I'm stuck in the car?  I think I'd be smarter to bring a couple of spare bottles of water if I want to be prepared than cart along a steel box to melt snow in.   ::)

Fortunately since I work out of my car I've always got a bottle of something in there.

I guess these guys aren't so smart if they are relying on a Suspension to save them.
