PST with an unusual file - RARE???
on:
March 07, 2013, 11:52:46 AM
Hi, I've just found a PST with a really odd looking file, which I've never seen before. It has a straight line running down the middle of the file. Is this a rare version?

Looks like the diamond file on a PST II - these have a fish hook sharpener groove. If so, not at all rare.
What are the markings on the handles of the tool ?

Yup, PST II file. I really liked that file, was great for shaping fingernails & needle points. Never used mine on fish hooks. Have one of these running around somewhere - think mom has it stashed in her
suitcase
purse.

Date stamp is 0796
Why is the PST II file on a PST?

Does your PST have scissors and a partially serrated blade too by any chance?

Might of gotten sent in for repair and that was the file on hand. Or you have a unique mishap.

I reckon it might be a PST that had warranty work & scored the PSTII's file
Or it could just be a factory cockup
. Either way you just can not beat a diamond file

Yeah that's lucky right there to end up with a diamond file on the PST. I have the PSTII and love that file. I've never really seen the point of the files that have a variation of the same type on each side, as opposed to having one side with the diamond coating.

I only recently got a PST II , it's a later one without the groove in the file , but now I got another
this is a really early one which still has the old PST handles which don't say "PST II " on them and it has the diamond groove.
Henry have you looked closely to see if the fasteners have been damaged by non factory dismantling ? It's quite hard to undo them ( although not impossible) without leaving a mark on them . This could help rule out someone modding it.
Are there any date codes inside the handles ?
