Fred Dibnahs Building of Britain
on: April 09, 2008, 12:00:56 AM
Was flicking through some Fred Dibnah stuff in my documentaries folder getting all nostalgic there when I caught a flash of a Leatherman somewhere, took me 10 minutes to find it again but here it is, looks like Fred carried a PST II (or PST? I dont know). You cant buy that kind of advertising, at least on this side of the Atlantic:

For those of you wondering who he is heres the Wiki article, one of the best presenters ever before he passed away a couple of years ago and some of my favorite documentaries ever, especially the Building of Britain series where I grabbed those shots, well worth watching:

That's a PST- the PST II has a partially serrated blade.

It's cool to see where these things crop up!  I always found it amusing when reading older Clive Cussler books, that Dirk Pitt never carried a SAK, but always managed to find one in a wrecked plane or discarded survival kit when he needed it!

Ahhhhhhhhhh Fred....... Gone, but never forgotten! Indeed it was only a night or two I was watching something about him going round on "Betsy" visiting the old fashioned industries and companies who made bits and pieces for his steam and traction engines over the years. Fred is an absolute legend - him saying "Do yer like that?" whilst emerging from a cloud of dust will stay with me forever, as will this clip from his show where he attempted to recreate a coal mine in his garden! I just love the banter between the 2 of them...

That is a cracking clip! Saw it a couple of months ago and loved it, thanks for bringing it back to my attention :) And welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the welcome guys!  I've been looking up this site for the last day or two as I'm stuck between a Leatherman Wave, Swisstool Spirit and a Cybertool 41. Reservered my first post for "The Main Man" though! Quite a few videos of him on Youtube, each one I watched brought a chuckle to the surface! Can't believe it's 3.5 years since he passed though - bet he's up there now giving the Victorian engineers a right quizzing!  :drink:
