I was right into watching Dr who, but couldnt get into it for the 3rd incarnation of the Dr.  I liked the first 2, but the third guy I just didnt care for so I still havent caught up on those seasons.

I really liked Tennant as the 10th Doctor... thought he did a great job of bringing out that dark and malevolent shadow of the character, the reason the Daleks call him "the coming storm" and "the predator"...   :tu:

I was very concerned when Matt Smith took over the role, but even after the first have of season five, when he became the 11th Doctor, I wasn't so concerned.  I really like his goofiness and quirkiness... and the way he's always one step ahead of everyone despite it seeming like he's a complete buffoon...  As he's grown into the character, he's getting better at bringing out that same dark malevolence, but in a different way.  As I was watching The Bells of Saint John, there's a scene about 3/4ths of the way through where he get noticeably angry... and I thought, "uh oh... they've done it now... now he's pissed!"   :D

If you don't want to buy it, Netflix has both the classic series, and the new series through season 6 online.  It'd be an easy way to catch up.   :tu:  I'm just too much of a Whovian to wait a whole year for Netflix to get season 7.

I also stopped at the end of Tennant's run. I have nothing against Smith. It was just more a matter of timing and finances (dropping cable). We're looking at getting Amazon Prime, so i may start catching up with whatever's available for the Kindle.

There is nothing, and I mean nothing, goofier or more non-sequitur than Matt Smith's Doctor going "Who da man!!!"     But, that's what I love about the way he does the character!  And despite that, when he does get truly angry, you can see it in the way he plays it, and then you know... the bad guys have made the wrong person, the one person in the entire universe that you don't want to have mad at you, bent on taking you down...  and you know what happens then...  :o

Yes Tennant was my favorite in the modern series.  I'll give Matt Smith another try though.

My wife watched with me and to this day she still thinks its hilarious to pretend to be those stone statues that only move when you arent looking at them.  Freaks me out. lol.

I used to love Dr.WHO until they canceled on McCoy. Tried giving the new guys a shot, but alas, no go. I guess what does not help is some of the earlier writers like Terri Nation are gone.

That's one thing I'd really love to see, the reinvention of K9!  :D  He made a short appearance in the new series with Tennant as the 10th Doctor, but that's all there's been of him...
