I've been away for the last two days watching the V8 Supercars at the Curcuit of the Americas. I took my son for Friday and Saturday, I'll take my friends for Sunday since they bought the tickets but couldn't go the other two days. Watching those cars was just amazing!¡! Pictures to follow. Any of our Oz and Kiwi members here go to any of these races? If so, enlighten me on how they do this stuff because it's nothing like NASCAR or IRL racing here in the States.

I live 10 mins from one of the teams test tracks, which is used each winter for a race round.

It's born from the old "touring cars" style racing - and even older than that they used to race showroom spec cars. These days they all run on the same platform, but each team builds their own manufacturers engines - within certain rules.

In the early days the motto was "win on Sunday, sell on Monday" since the cars being raced were the very same cars people could buy.

Not the same as NASCAR?  How's that? Do they have right turns as well?  :D

This is the track near me:

I've even driven it - it's a very technical track - it's not just about speed you know :)

Aussie V8 drivers have gone to NASCAR and blitzed them - they're better drivers ;)

Is that Winton? Had a brother living in Tatura for a while, we did some fun missions, motogp at Phillip Island etc. I've got another brother living just around the corner from the Gold Coast track too. Would hate to think how many hours I put into the V8 playstation game, probably not as many as the F1 or WRC games though.

As far as I know, Marcos Ambrose is the only Super Car driver to come to NASCAR.

Since 2008 his Sprint Cup Series stats are as follows

Wins   Top tens   Poles
   2       34           2

Nationwide Series stats since 2008

Wins   Top tens   Poles
    4        16         4

Camping World Truck Series stats since 2006

Wins   Top tens   Poles
   0        4             1

I would hardly call that "blitzing"

I would have to admit that they are talented drivers but in a different way. NASCAR drivers only do two road courses in a season and the V8s run a season on nothing but road courses. Much respect  :salute:

I'm not sure what you mean by that but I watch NASCAR almost every weekend they're racing an Ambrose does pretty good but not always.

Here's a few images I took on my phone. I'll post more later that I shot with the camera.
