Quote your favourite song lyrics
on: June 26, 2013, 02:29:32 PM
The 'Quote your favourite book' thread let me think of this, quote the part of a song that you really like, for whatever reason  :tu:  I'll start...

"No words are needed, only a gaze, embrace...
Contact the living, remember the dead...

There is always something to learn,
Repetition proves it's worth
Without those moments, we would not remember"

From Everything Fades to Gray, by Sonata Arctica

"A soul in tension, that's learning to fly.
Condition grounded, but determined to try.
Can't keep my eyes from the circling skies.
Tongue tied and twisted,
just an earthbound misfit, I."

"A tout le monde
Et tout mes amis
Je vous aime
Je doit partir

These are the last words I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free."

Tout le Monde by Megadeth.  Not necessarily my favorite song, but certainly one that comes to mind.

Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb  :tu: :tu:

Hello,
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?

Come on
Now
I hear you're feeling down
I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again

Relax
I'll need some information first
Just the basic facts
Can you show me where it hurts?

There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move
But I can't hear what you're saying

When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like
Two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain
You would not understand
This is not how I am

I... Have become comfortably numb

I'm Listening to Led Zep right now,Stairway to Heaven...

BUt lyrics that mean something to me?

the whole of Tom Pettys 'Wont back down'...not so much a song, but words to live by!
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

All good music, so far  :D :D

Lyrics were always powerful to me, especially the heavy metal bands when I grew up like Iron Maiden and Twisted Sister.

"how long i have wanted
this dream to come true
and as it approaches
i can't believe i'm through
i've tried,
oh, how i've tried
for a life, yes a life
i thought i knew

oh it's the price we gotta pay
and all the games we gotta play
makes me wonder if it's worth it to carry on
'cause it's a game we gotta lose,
though it's a life we gotta choose
and the price is our own life until it's done"

Compared to Dee Snyder I look pretty normal huh?  :D

While a lot of folks may not approve of the kind of music and the image of groups like Twisted Sister, they did have their priorities straight- many bands even today say it's all about the music, but these guys knew it was all about the fans.  The music had to be good because the fans expected it, and the band had to go all out to perform because the fans had paid for it and you can't disappoint them.  That's the way I've always tried to run the forum- members come first, and never let people think they aren't essential to the process.  A forum with no members, like a band with no fans is a truly pathetic thing.

It wasn't until later that I got into songs that said a lot more with no lyrics at all, like these:

Sure Little Wing was supposed to have words, but Stevie Ray did it much better as an instrumental in my mind than Clapton or Hendrix ever did using words.

Good call Wayne  :tu:

A couple that spring to mind, and both from the same song ... both lines a reflection of my own sceptical nature and never trusting the "experts" (learned from experience) ...

"Science and technology, the new mythology"

and

"Everything is possible, but nothing is real"
