I had more Hot Wheels than Matchbox in the past... I still have a bunch of "classics" in a box somewhere...

That's awesome!  I loved Matchbox cars. I had a bunch of them, Hot Wheels and Corgi cars when I was small and I enjoyed them all, although they pretty well all blended together.

In my youth we only had Matchbox and Majorette.

Hot wheels were unknown to me until maybe 15 years ago.

at my mom's last time I visited I found the box, in a box of my stuff, it has these plus a bunch of similar hot rod style classic cars:

Same here  :D.

And Matchbox were always my first choice, Majorette cars were a bit "iffy" sometimes regarding fit and finish ...  ::)

When we're at my parents home, I see my boys playing with my old cars, and I still know which ones were my favorites.  Some of them have dates on the bottom from before I was born, sadly enough they are full of "battle scars", well ... sadly ...  they did give me years of joy, so it was worth it I guess  ;).

Nowadays, my boys pick about 80% Hotwheels and 20% Matchbox.  Me on the other hand, I still tend to go for the Matchbox cars (when I buy one for myself, like my small "Defender collection"  ;)).

Like everyone, I had a lot of dinky cars of all makes...and didn't take care of them. However, my favorites were the military ones from Matchbox. I played them till they literally fell apart. I forgot about them until I ran across one model on eBay while searching something completely unrelated...and a lot of good memories came back from my childhood. I then re-found those few models I cherished the most and bought them for all the good memories they held. As for the rest...well a lot of them got lost in the sandbox, thrown out, and later given to a poor kid who lived down the street before moving out of town as a kid.

A little Leatherman information.

When I was a kid, the only thing we had was a bundle of sticks and a rock. And we had to share the rock...lol

Those 2 on the right (the swamp rat and the personnel carrier) were two of my favorites when I was a kid.

Good times ...  :dd:

At least you had a rock.  We were so poor we only had dirt, and that was only on Sundays if we'd been good all week!

I had tons of hotwheels and matchbox when I was younger. There were so many hours of enjoyment with those! I never got rid of them so they are somewhere...

I had Matchbox too. And then Burago  as I  grew older. Very few might survive. My Lancia Stratos certainly not. My daughter was a master of toy destruction.

I had a bunch of Matchbox cars as a kid, but sadly I wasn't very kind to them as I would eventually smash them with rocks.  Not sure why, but I guess I just had a thing for crushing that strong metal.  Did the same with some of my Transformers too.  I used to pretend they were being shot at by throwing rocks at them.  I guess I had a think for destruction overall at that age.  And believe me, I really regret that :(

My neighbor once placed one of his matchbox cars on the rail and got it flattened real good by a train. His father, a police officer, scared the daylights out of us with tales of train derailments etc after he found his son's squashed car. Ah the good times.

Good all WEEK?.   I had to be good two years longer than I'd been alive just to be beaten with a leather belt rather than an electrical cord!

Very cool cars Dan!  I only have one toy car these days and it's a Hot Wheels model- the Tooligan.  I'd post pics but it seems like Photobucket has crashed again... maybe me posting pictures of a camera caused a feedback loop or something.....   ???

They are really available on eBay for less than $5.  There is also a silver one that I haven't gotten yet.
