Google Chromecast

I've had a lot of love hate with Google's products and decisions lately... the new Google Maps is horribly crippled, as is the new Google Play store/market... I love my Nexus 7, and have been drooling over the specs of the new one (now available in the US)

That being said Chromecast looks like a winner!

Yeah, I am kind of annoyed that they are killing off Latitude and integrating it (poorly so far) into G+. Chromecast certainly looks promising though.

Clever gadget - probably more flexible than the system I'm using right now too

(media player and hard drive plugged in to TV)

I set up my Chromecast last night and tried it out!

The initial setup is ridiculously simple -- just plug in the Chromecast to an HDMI port, install the Chromecast app on your phone/tablet (I used my Nexus 7), enter your wifi password, and you're ready to go.

the streaming worked really well; didn't encounter any problems while watching several youtube videos and a couple shows on Netflix. I'm sure older/slower wifi networks will have issues, but that seems like a given with something like this.

Now I just hope other apps add Chromecast compatibility soon. I'm looking at you, HBO Go...

It'll be a while before we see them over here... New nexus included. I was thinking about getting a Nexus 4, but it looks like a Samsung Galaxy S3 is a better option for me.

I think I might have to pull the trigger on one of these in the near future. It's not often that a new piece of tech comes out and it's all of $35.

I'd be willing to, but right now they are completely sold out.

Google Play currently lists a wait time of 3-4 weeks, and Amazon (where I got mine) just says that they are sold out and will ship when they get more in stock.

I was looking for info on WiDi which put be back to the Chromecast as an option, I was looking for a way to push from the new Lenovo laptop to my TV... and that was suggested as an option.
