Changing a tail light with a Gerber Steady!

I know some of you think the Steady is a joke, but its quirky enough that I actually like carrying it.

It would have been even cooler had Chrysler not run out of paint and gotten me a Gecko Green Jeep so it would have matched the green on the Steady!

and one most likely to be found if you get stuck in the desert... not too good in the wilderness as you end up blending with the foliage.

Oh and BTW I believe that the steady is a one of the better MTs that came out on the last 5 years!
Cheers,

This is the color I ordered.

I like the Steady even though it's a plastic body.  It's actually tougher than it seems at first, and as I've said before it would come in handy for folks with an active, outdoorsy type lifestyle.  I see it as a great tool for twenty something's.

Shrill color there on the jeep, it probably marks you as target for alien abduction, as it is easy to spot from space.

I like the Steady because its something different, unlike most MTs that are a variation of the same this one truly differs and brings an entirely new function to the table. Most inspiring.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Yeah, it is a very bright color.  My old Jeep was yellow, and it sort of became my trademark.

I liked it because it was easy to spot in a parking lot, so when I ordered the new one I wanted a bright color.  The current yellow is hideous.

That's what they call Dozer Yellow.  I hate it, so my next choice was the Gecko Green, which I liked a lot.  There's more to the story, but shortly after I ordered it I got a call from Chrysler saying they'd run out of Gecko Green paint and I had to choose another color.

Up until this year the color I got (Commando Green) was only available in a limited edition so I got it thinking it looked nice, which it does.  Unfortunately it is now a standard color and you are seeing more and more of them kicking around, and, when coupled with the low key nature of the color, I am forever losing it in parking lots.  Luckily I got remote keyless entry, so I can just keep hitting the unlock button until I see the HID lights flash.  :D

Now, on to the Steady- on paper it seems like a very bad tool, with it's plastic body, limited tool set and bizarre tripod feature, but I like it.  It's a bit bulky, but not overly so.  I know a lot of people dismiss it as a joke and lump it in with some of Gerber's less than wonderful offerings (Suspension, EVO, Ripstop, Tread etc) but to be honest it's actually not all that bad.  I like the quirkiness and I can see it as an alternative to a Gorillapod in some ways.  For folks not familiar with a Gorillapod...

While it may not wrap around things like the Gorillapod, you could easily extend the knife blade and stab it into a tree or post and mount a camera on it.  Also, it has a knife blade, screwdrivers, bottle opener etc that the Gorillapod is missing, so it's probably more useful to have on a hiking, camping or fishing trip than the Gorillapod.

Plus the Steady comes with a camera phone suction cup/adaptor that not only works on the Steady, but could also be used with any standard tripod, adding to the versatility of any other tripod, monopod or extension handle you may have.

Is it limited?  Yes.  Is it a specific use tool?  Yes.  But, there are a lot of specific function tools out there- look at the MUT or MultiTasker for example.  I'll bet that almost everyone who owns a gun owns a camera too, and almost everyone who doesn't own a gun probably owns a camera, so it's a bigger niche than either of those, and they both cost a lot more.

I think that's why they call it that- Dozer would be short for bulldozer.  :D

Frankly I think it looks a lot more like a school bus than a bulldozer.

Give me a few moments and I'll check.  Since I have several tripod mounts I'd probably never use it that way.  Even if it does hold, it won't hold as well as the tripod mount would.

And the answer is yes, including the Wi-Fi Backpack, extended case, aluminum tripod mount and wrist strap float.
