"Lefty" SAKs
on: August 09, 2013, 11:15:21 PM
Has anyone noticed that if you get a used Victorinox with an ad printed on it and
remove the ad, that you have a left handed SAK? I just got a Bantam off ebay for
$1.78 with an ad on it. When I removed the ad and repolished the handle, I noticed
that it was a left handed knife. I guess Vic puts the ad on the front of the knife
and their insignia on the back if you have an ad printed.

Wenger at one time offered a series of genuine left-handed knives, with reversed blade order and blade nicks, left hand corkscrews, etc. Some of them are still available from speSmurfpillst lefthand shops.

It took me a while to understand what you meant but yes. :D On full size advertising SAKs the Vic shield is moved to the back scale where the cutout for the phillips/corkscrew is so there's more room for advertising prints on the front scale.

Victorinox does not always do that.  It is up to the customer.  Many promotional knives don't have a shield, some have the shield on the top with the promotion text/logo, and some have their promotion on the bottom scale.

Only Wenger made true left-handed SAKs, they will be remembered for that for sure.

Didn't know Wenger actually made a lefty. Good to know. None the less, cleaning off
the ad from a Vic might give a lefty a "pseudo lefty Vic" for all intents and purposes.

Such Vics are at best "pseudo-lefties".
"Unique to Wenger are the Left Hand models: A virtual mirror-image of the regular knife, the nick for each blade is on the opposite side and the tools open in the opposite direction. The corkscrew twists counter-clockwise instead of clockwise. Sparkles around the left hand of an image on the handle show that these folders are made for lefties."

Cool. 8) I didn't know they also reversed the direction of the corkscrew. I'll miss the Wenger inovative spirit.
