Cheap land and low taxes.
on: May 04, 2008, 03:04:18 AM
Cheap land and low taxes, is that too much to ask? :D

I've done no research on the subject, but a friend of mine originally from Kentucky told me how land down there is cheap compared to up here (Rhode Island), and the taxes are fair.

What is others experience of that chunk of the country?; Kentucky, Virginia, etc...

Rhode Island is quickly becoming unreasonable in it's laws and taxing, and overall corrupt politics.  Lots of people of any worth are up and leaving the state altogether, it's pretty sad.

The problem with cheap land at least here in the Ozarks is that Yankees from California or elsewhere come here but expect us to change to their ways. There was a big deal here lately about how someone moved here, to a street called RIFLE RANGE ROAD(which of course also had a rifle range) then tried to get the range shut down because she thought it was "unsafe". Last I heard one of the local(I think) politicians proposed before the state legislature a measure to protect gun ranges from stupid lawsuits like this.

We don't care if y'all come to the Ozarks but y'all need to adjust to our culture, not the other way around.

The protection act for Missouri ranges passed Senate on Monday.  I received this on Wednesday:

******FOR WIDEST POSSIBLE DISTRIBUTION******

HB2034 The Range Protection Act passed out of the Senate Monday by a vote of 30-4. Those voting against passage were Senators Bray, Justus, Smith, and Wilson.

The bill goes back to the House for a final up or down vote. This is the last hurdle to putting the bill on the Governor's desk.

Your State Representatives need to hear from you today!

You need to contact your State Rep (Do Not Contact Senators) and tell them to vote *For Passage of SCS HB2034*. Those words need to be in the subject line of your emails and faxes.

The final vote could come as early as tomorrow. Please call, email or fax and let them know your feelings.

I was re-offered my old job with my company that moved my whole division down to Georgia. When I went down for an initial visit/check I noticed that most things were cheaper than here in New Jersey, including real estate. People were very nice, too. I would have went but unforeseen circumstances changed my plans and I didn't go. The NY/NJ tri-state area is just $$ and congested. I would move out west if the deal was right.
