Need decent EDC light
on: September 12, 2013, 03:12:06 AM
Looking for a edc flashlight that is LED(put a up a for trade in the proper area already). Want LED, probable 2-3AA or 2-3 CR123 in size, tough, bright and strobe mode would be nice. Under say 80 bucks.. Something that will carry decently on my belt if i so choose.  Sorta been looking at the mag tac flashlight and the 5.11 flashlights. Always been a mag guy.

I'm a fan of Fenix lights.  I have an LD22G2 (2 AA), which I like.  Also consider the PD35 if you prefer a 2 CR123A option.  Either will be tough, bright, and have strobe mode.  The only negative things I have to say are that the included holster is junk (not a problem for me since I don't use it anyway, and the clip seems pretty solid), and the finish doesn't seem particularly durable (but this is a purely cosmetic issue).

Got it. Holy bright light!! That pd35 is sweet!! So is the pd22 and the other on you posted... Thinking the pd2 for edc or even the LD2g2 isnt bad.. What else compares? Wouldn't mind rechargeable with a base station... But standard batteries are nice and easy too. I really like the brightness off the pd35 lol!  850lumens! Didn't think a small flashlight could put that out!!

Personally, I like my EDC lights waterproof to IPX-8, so that would knock the Maglite out of the running.

Between the other two, I think it comes down to personal preference. The Fenix will have a tighter beam while the Olight will be floodier.  The Fenix is listed at a whopping two grams heavier, so weight is the same for practical intents and purposes.  The Olight can tailstand, has a moonlight mode, and has a two-meter impact resistance rating (vs. one-meter for the Fenix), but the momentary-on and intelligent memory functions of the Fenix would probably let it carry the day for me.

I always carry a streamlight microstream led Pen light. It fits perfectly in one of my pockets on my sheath.
