Best current iPhone apps.
on: September 21, 2013, 12:51:38 PM
Now that I've left the nice free open world of Android, I'm wondering what are some of the good iPhone apps are?

What do you want your iPhone to do for you??? There is an app for it, or 10!

My most important apps are Navigon for GPS navigation. Time Master for tracking billable hours and invoicing clients. OmniFocus for todo list and staying organized. CarCare for tracking vehicle maintenance and fuel mileage. Feedly for RSS feeds. Tapatalk for forums. Evernote, Dropbox, etc...

+1, it really depends on what you are looking for.

Other than the standard pre-loaded stuff, I find the following worth having (in no particular order):

MyRadar - Current weather radar for your (or any) location, and a nice supplement to the standard included weather app

Calc Made Easy (free version) - Scientific calculator with considerably more functions (including calculation history) than the standard included calculator app (which is just a fairly basic four-function calculator)

Key Ring - Allows you to scan in, save, and display the bar codes from various discount cards (grocery, gas station, etc.) so you no longer need to carry the cards on your key ring.  The only issue has been that some (presumably older) optical scanners have difficulty reading the bar code off the phone's screen, although most scanners seem to work and the cashier can always key in the number...

Just Light - Flashlight app that allows the built-in white LED (the flash for the forward-facing camera) to be used as a flashlight.  There are several apps that will do this, and as long as you get one that is free and has a good rating it should be fine.  This is worth having as a backup flashlight, but probably won't displace your primary flashlight if you carry one.

Find iPhone - Thankfully, I haven't had to use it yet, but this app is potentially useful for obvious reasons.

Apps I wish I had but haven't found yet:

Altimeter - While there are a number of apps that claim to display your altitude, I have yet to find one that works accurately, reliably, and repeatably.

Call Blocker - It would be nice to have a free app that allowed the creation of white and black lists, etc.

iOS 7 now has a flashlight and call blocking built in. Nothing fancy, but certainly functional.

Good to know.  That gives me a reason to update to iOS 7, which I hadn't bothered to do yet.

In the new IOS 7 there is a Call Blocking feature, under Settings, Phone, Block: block calls, texts and facetime from whomever you like to!

A few I've found and like are:
EasilyDo
Tapatalk
PS Express
InstaCollage

I'm still searching and trying new ones out, and am slowly finding Android replacements.

Thanks to those who pointed out to me that the new iOS 7 has a call blocking feature built-in.  I upgraded to iOS 7 earlier this week, and have already made use of the call blocker.

Sadly, though, iOS 7 is pretty tough on my battery life, even after I tweaked a bunch of settings to try to decrease its power consumption.
