Anyone like the Gerber Suspension?

I found a Gerber Suspension for a steal and am debating getting one, but they just look terrible to me. Does anyone own one and love it? Thanks guys.

Capt,  I haves seen some people here who do, but I hated mine,  gave it away.  the blades are super short, and it weighs 9 oz.!  that is crazy weight for what it is.

on mine I used the scissors like 3 times, then the spring became miss aligned and would not open the scissors again, AND it held them closed by tension.

Gerber did replace it, but my faith was ruined already, and that much weight I might as well carry a wave
If I can help, let me know

if they drop the price another $5.00  I would have to think about buying some as gifts,  if they were $4.00 I would buy some as gifts, but not as give-aways here, that would be wrong!

I used to have one and Detron is correct the blades are super short. The scissors weren't that bad though. And don't even think about turning a screw with the "philips" driver, it is a joke.

I like the spring-action pliers. I think LM got their idea for the Wingman/Sidekick from this.

I bought one when they first came out as it was just so cheap for something with a comprehensive tool load that looked a bit different to what was available at the time (anyone remember how long ago these came out?)

I used it around the office for opening parcels, but as everyone says the tools are short and flimsy.

I forgot to take one out of my hand luggage heading to the airport one day and just put it in the bin before I got to the airport rather than post it home, that says it all.

As for the Wingman/Sidekick comparison, there is truth in that though I'd say the LMs are the better tool.... Though the Sidekick file is a hateful short evil useless thing.

Some of the Bear Grills tools are pretty close to it these days too.

I'm sure TaxiDad will be here in a minute to defend it

In fairness, I gave TDs Suspension a test drive, and while there's not an awful lot to recommend it,I'd have one over a Sidekick or Wingman

This thread made me realise it's a little tool I hadn't gave a lot of thought to for long time, so I've dusted one off, popped it a case and I'm going to EDC it for a day :)

Taxi dad,

Please feel free to provide some positives.  Maybe we ate just ignorant of the truth.

Also there is a link where you can get some more cheap if you need them.

it's far from my favourite tool, I haven't carried mine for ages (it is a bit like lugging around a car battery) BUT I don't think it's as bad as it's rep !
pros.
   1. springy pliers (if that matters to you)
   2. outside tools
   3. OHO
   4. fairly comfy in the hand, specially as pliers
(they are just off the top of my head)

cons.
  1. heavy as a house
  2. small tools
  3. gerber scissors suck !

I had one for a while and I honestly don't have a single good thing I can say about it.  Gerber should be embarrassed that it ever made it past the design stages, much less into blister packs and shipped to stores.

Sorry TD, but the Suspension has a lot to answer for. It was my first "big brand" multitool, and even though I had nothing to compare it to, I knew it was crap. It was that very tool which made me look to the internet for reviews and ultimately end up here and spend WAY too much trying out many many tools, and confirming that the Suspension was indeed as crap as I had first deduced  :P

It's a "better than nothing" tool, but that's hardly an endorsement for anyone who has some decent gear already to go out and buy one  :)

Have you ever considered breaking them and sending them back to Gerber and asking that they be replaced with one decent tool?

Breaking them shouldn't be hard, try it on something really demanding like pulling candles out of a kid's birthday cake, that should do it.

Hold on, are those all "different" tools that are actually the same?

And once you've confirmed the first one's crap, you could have bought yourself something decent instead of getting all the others!  :ahhh
