Detron's admiration of his first gerber knife

So I stopped by a outdoor store on the way home, to see what type of crazy prices they wanted for SAKs.

then I see this



intrigued I looked closely and decided I had to have it.
I do know it was made in China, but it is very nice, and I liked the look of the knife itself.

so I bought it and opened it.  it was thicker than I expected, but I sure like the looks of it.

I took a pic of the front before opening it, but it ended up being blurry  , so here is a stock pic



the back, with the little pouch




there were 4 of these left, and I chose the one with less stag horn dark areas.  just personal preference.





this knife has brass liners



the main blade does lock!



OK, could not resist the bright reflections






and I love the designs on the ends





I do not know any technical information about the steel used, but I can tell you this, I tried to touch the blade to get a microscopic piece of cardboard off, and thought my fingerprint would be removed If I was not careful.  super sharp.


I think it was $20 well spent, and I sure think this thing is pretty.  It will not replace my SAKs, but it is a great cheap addition to my collection

I've had really good and really bad Gerbers. I like that knife though! Very cool.

For $20 is have grabbed it too and I'm not a fan of the traditional American type design.

great question,  to be honest I hope my wife throws it away,  that way it will ALREADY be dirty, and I will happily use it.   

I probably will carry it, and see what I think, then decide if I like carrying it, or if I should just leave it home.  I win either way, $20 for a good user knife, or $20 for a beautiful piece of art that can cut you.

win/win it seems with this one.  looks like a good selection of utility blades and a very good looking design.  I also like the design on the bolsters.

one was basically the same knife with just 1 blade,  for $15  and the other I have no idea

Bolsters!  that was the word I could not remember!  and yes,  I thought it was beautiful

Nice looking knife for $20.    I was carrying a stockman today, a Buck 301.  They make for good EDC blades.  I use my slipjoints at work a lot, cutting things around customers usually.  A traditional doesn't have the poo-causing properties of, say, pulling out a Para 2 to cut some little old ladies' coupon at the counter.....

I can honestly say that if this knife was $40, I would not have even looked twice.  at $30, I would have admired it without buying.  at $25 I would have carried it around the store for 20 minutes deciding if I wanted it bad enough to part with $25. 

but at $20 I grabbed it checked out, and while in line pondered grabbing the other 3 they had left

The look reminds me of an older, Chinese, Colt I have and a similar Steel warrior.
The locking blade is unusual.

This is a good find!  I recently had been trying to expand my little knife collection and started to collect a few pieces of American traditional knife.  Partially I do plan to start a hobby of whittling if I could find suitable material somewhere.  This knife looks like a good candidate for whittling too, any plans of that?(or you might be a master craftsman already )

Yikes!  That just sensory overload!  Haha....

But on a second thought, it is not easy to whittle "two turds swimming together"....in fact, if you could do that, it will be a great pile of...art.

That's a nice looking knife.  I recently obtained a couple of Chinese made knives (Byrd) and certainly cannot complain about the quality or the steel.  Your's looks like it is very nicely made.
