Call of Duty Ghosts...or is it Call of Duty Groan.
on: November 06, 2013, 12:24:17 AM
After work today, I went to the local Wally World and picked up a copy of Call of Duty Ghosts. Now, I haven't bought a DVD version of software for ages now...and it shows. When I opened the package, there is 4 DVDs found therein. What? I immediately got flashbacks to the days of floppy drives when games came on multiple 5 1/4" or 3 1/2" plastic discs. Well at least  there are no more annoying anti-piracy cardboard puzzle pieces that required the dexterity of a chimp on bananas to align the stars in unison in order to get that code to continue to play that game. Yes, I know I am dating myself here.

I digress, I was surprised that the game came on 4 DVDs..and that as soon as I plopped them into my DVD drive, it synched with my steam account and there you go. Even when you buy hard media, it still attaches itself to Steam. Ah well, I guess I should have bought the Steam version after all.

I used to play Call of duty about 10 years ago.
Apart from being too short I remember that it was fun.
I hope you enjoy the new version too!

That seems to be the trend, you don't buy them anymore, you just rent them. Good thing I quit computer games when this whole BS started.

I love the COD games. Now a days, games are designed around the multiplayer aspect though, and less time is put into the actual campaign.

So far, the campaign is fantastic. I truly enjoy the dog control scenarios.

I never really got into the COD series... I was more Ghost Recon and Joint Ops fan...

Joint Ops was great for a while, they had useable vehicles and weapon emplacements long before anyone else.

I got tired of fragfests, being shot in the face and teabagged by some 10 year old punk repeatedly and kinda moved away from FPS games.

I recall having a few games that spanned several CDs before DVDs became the norm and several 3 1/2 floppy multidisk games, and even some 5 1/4 floppy multidisk games... hows that for dating yourself?

I just started getting into these cod games, my one kid does nothing but those campaign set ups, but I'm old school, the last unit I had was colecovision, then super Nintendo, now these controls on Xbox 360 are just wow, I'm still trying to get the hang of them.. JR

I've got to say, for me Ghosts has been a bit of fresh air from the series finally. They finally got back to a story that I thoroughly enjoyed playing through and kept me interested.

Previously they had fallen into what Derek was describing, a place filler, flavorless campaign so they could focus all the attention on multiplayer.

Thankfully that has changed, at least a little bit.

I'm disappointed in the series I stopped playing along time ago. They reuse a decade old engine for all of the games. I'm planning on buying one of the new systems even on those they used the same engine. I played battle field 4 a few weeks ago at my buddys and that game triumphs over cod in story and multi player.

Call of Duty and Battlefield only attracted my attention at the beginning, when they saw it made money and started pumping out new versions every six months without any sort of polish I stopped being interested.

I used to have BF1942 installed with a "modern warfare" mod on it. Tanks, planes, choppers, and all sorts of vehicles to make it interesting... on top of all the soldiers... I think the main dev from that mod got into the COD team.

I've been keen on either a x360 or ps3 now that the next gen has rolled out, and the prices dropped, but FPS on a console... still not sold.

Same here. Not sure I could play a FPS with a joypad controller. Mind you I have tried to buy a PS4 recently and failed. None for sale in my village.

Out of all the COD games the earliest one we have is world at war, and that's what I just started, I ordered two other ones last night(I think 3 & 4), but still don't have two(which the kids have on ps, but not for Xbox 360, I know one is big red one) the one for Xbox says it's set up for xbox, but it says it will work for Xbox 360, you just can't go online.. But so far my fav war game is sniper elite. Which I ordered a diff one of, he he.. All used from my kids fav store, lol JR

Yeah whoey I hear you on that. Once the ps3 drops more in a couple years I'll own a few. They make excellent media players and won 2010 best blue ray player award I believe. The date could be wrong. But there media capability's are top notch in my book

that's probably the big issue with Xbox One backwards compatibility... BluRay won this round... We only have one TV, so it's not really necessary for us to have another bluray player, and we already have a Shuttle XBMC/OpenElec based media player strapped to the back of the TV...

I'm tempted to slap in a new video card in my current PC and forget about consoles. I can get a significant improvement over my current 9600GT card with a GTX 650, which uses almost half the power, and gets far better performance.

Again, I think I was leaning towards the x360 more to work alongside my win8 touchscreen laptop...

Ok, you guys lost me, fps and blu-ray won? I got the point about once the new unit comes out then buy the old one since the price just plummeted. I keep telling the kids I won't buy the new ones! But dad sell our old one, yeah right sell that and 50 games all to afford the new unit and what one game if your lucky? Stick with the unit you have and keep picking up games, then maybe after about ten new units come out then start over,, but this xbox 360 is nasty and so lifelike compared to what I'm used to! I'll stick with this for awhile.. JR

FPS = First Person Shooter

On the Xbox360 originally Microsoft backed HD DVD format, which subsequently failed (Xbox One has BluRay)

Probably won't happen as Sony appears to be adamant in not selling me one. If they tick me enough, they will lose a customer. I will add, I am virtually there.

Everywhere I go, they keep telling me that they do receive them often...but that they sell right away. I ask them how many are they getting and they all tell me 1 to 3 units per shipment. Are you kidding me?

Ironically there's no shortage of PS3s, PS4s or XboxOnes here, Xbox360s however seem to be in short supply...

Everything in abundance here except the PS4. This tells me hardly anyone is jumping on board the XBox One this round. I guess I can't blame them. Microsoft really shot themselves in the foot trying to compete with a machine that on paper is 50 % faster.

No PS4's around here either that I could find.  I'm not looking to get one (too much invested in PS3 stuff), but have been keeping an eye open for friends.  The Xbox Ones seem to be in short supply around here too, but at least you can order one online.

Well for a laugh I called Sony Canada. Of course they couldn't tell me when they will be shipping more to my village. You know, I figured a few months after release, I would be able to find them out in the wild. Very strange selling strategy from Sony. I mean, are they trying to push me towards X Box One. I can find them all over the place here.

Well I got tired of waiting. I couldn't find a PS4 for love or money. I ended up with an Xbox One instead. I bought the Titanfall bundle along with Forza 5, Plants versus Zombies shooter, and some zombie game to get me started.

I am still shocked that I couldn't find a PS4 and its mid March. Wow!

Well I wish I could tell you more about the system however...

1. Spent a long time re-typing to make a Microsoft account. Do I ever hate using a joypad to scroll around a virtual keyboard.
2. The box came with a 14 day and a 30 day X Box Live Gold trial. Guess which one works and which one doesn't work.
3. I got the Titanfall editon...which means nothing other than you get Titanfall as a fee download. Can I say very slow download. I waited 30 minutes and got impatient. I tried Forza 5...
4. Forza 5 told me I needed an update. Slow updating once again...argh!

So now I am back on my super fast computer. I truly wish I could tell you how awesome a game is on this...but as I type, one is cued up, and the other is somewhat downloading an update.
