Coconut oil pulling? NE1 try it?
on: December 15, 2013, 05:29:24 PM
Ok new thing of trying, The wife and I tried our first shot at it this morning and I was wondering if anyone has ever done it? It's suppose to do all these good things(remove gingivitis, plaque, rid of bad breath, teeth whitening, boost metabolism, treat eczema, insomnia, meningitis, kiddie disease, hormonal issues, high blood pressure) to name a few,  all by swishing it in your mouth for like 15min a day first thing in the morning before you eat or drink. There's lots of videos online. As for my thought on it, it tastes NASTY, it starts off like sticking a lumpy Vaseline in at first, then becomes manageable and into a liquid, all to be spit into the toilet. But if it's suppose to be all so good for you, I guess you can get used to it, the wife says that my teeth looked a hole shade whiter just from the first use, if she says so.. :D so I guess we'll have to wait and see, so has anyone else ever tried it? My wife has also fallen into the coconut oil fad.  It used to be acai berries.  Now it's coconuts.  If you can guess what the next "miracle food" is let me know as we could make a fortune selling the same thing people have been buying for years, but now with a back story of pseudo science and random bits of bull droppings in it.

Yes, coconut oil, juice or whatever is good for you, and yes, eating healthy is better for you than eating chemical laden, processed foods, so there are indeed health benefits to it.  However, rinsing your mouth twice a day with coconut butter is probably not going to keep your kidneys safe.

That having been said, keeping the wife happy is probably the best health benefit of all, so make sure you support her in whatever dog food enema fad she decides to buy into.

^^^Best advice you'll get on the subject right there. Doesn't matter if it "works" or not; if it keeps the wife happy then it's worth doing.

I've seen enough of these things come and go that my BS detector pegs red every time I hear a new one, regardless of its actual merit.

Just don't consume silver.

Also, Grant, for 'dog food enema'... you win the internet.

EDIT: My husband reads 'skeptophilia', and reports back on all the latest interwebs-crazy. The current buzzword among the speudoscience smurf-holes is 'quantum'. Yay! Junk Science!

Did it again this morning, yuck but still manageable, did it for 20min, and there's one thing I noticed, no talking! You can't speak while doing it so I guess it's worth it for that 20min of silence  JR
