Old Multitool with Vise
on: January 07, 2014, 07:56:08 PM
I saw this one on fleabay so I snagged a picture for posterity. Hammer, pliers, riveter, pry bar, bolt notches and the most interesting part is the vise on one handle.  Patented in 1883.

Definitely old and unusual.  And possibly the inspiration for all those Gerber and LM tools with replaceable wire cutter bits ?   :pok:

That one tool looks more like a leather punch than a riveter...

Still in all, very interesting tool.

I agree,  I was repeating the text of the posting, but it is probably a leather punch.

Nice!! :tu: That be a Louderback Combination Tool, produced by Edwin Louderback & Co. of Philadelphia. And the little vice thingy on the end was also designed to hold that flat blade between the jaws, for use as a screwdriver. (Can you imagine rotating the whole bloody tool around to drive a screw?) :D

I can see the usefulness of that sucker if your repairs included metal straps, leather straps, nuts, bolts, screws., etc.

Right when you had horse/buggies and early autos to deal with.

When betting on Bob's collection always take the "over".

Love the ad, "Each part a practical working instrument".  Late 19th century craftsmanship and invention. Classic!

I think those tools are really cool. They look practical for the time period, or even could be today.
