Ok so who voted for the Micra?

Wasn't me,but I do wonder if they don't have a point?

It's still in production after how many years? It's never been tweaked or upgraded, and it was the first butterfly type keyring MT.
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

So wanted to vote Wave here
It was not my first multitool, I had a Blast for a little while, then gifted it away - not coz I didn't like it - I hasten to add!
But it was the first one I kept and used in anger.
So like 50ft - This is where multis all started for me.

However after coming here and discovering the PST - My vote has to go to the PST
  • The first and grandfather of the modern multitool
  • A truly amazing story of vision, luck and perseverence on how it came into being
  • Contains the 'classic' multitool toolset
  • And I would say a visionary design at the time
  • The tool on which all later Leathermans and other brand's tools are based
  • In production for 20 odd years - and without any significant design changes
  • Spawned a family - PSTII, Flair, Supertool

Now that's iconic  :pok:

I certainly think it is the most iconic keyring multi-tool from LM.

PST/PST II.  The PST II was the first Leatherman ever made, and the PST II was an improvment upon the original (diamond file, and scissors).  I carry a Leatherman PST II almost every day.

:multi:

Reasons for my vote:
  • It's a Pocket Survival Tool!
  • Granddaddy of modern Multitools
  • You can fix a FIAT 600 with it
  • "Everyone and their dog copied that format" (50ft-Trad) - This is what iconic means to me: Everyone sees it as a benchmark and tries to reach it.
  • Have you seen the MTo-Logo lately?  :tu:

Nice try on the logo RT,but,if my memory serves,it's actually Mr Pinchy ;)
Yep, definitely a Pinchy, you can see the handle pivot "triangle" pretty clearly

I voted PST/PST II, as it is the quintessential Leatherman, and the first that comes to mind when I think of the brand.  Second place, however, is a tie for me, as I'm conflicted between the Wave and the humble Micra. :/

I did :salute:

For me it's a bit like the Vic Classic, not the best, not the most feature rich but it got mileage... and there is still gas in the tank.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I'd go for PST since it's the granddaddy of them all.  For something more recent and in line with the times, I'd give it to the Wave.

For something unchanged all this time, I'd give it to the Micra.

I mean there's no Micra II or OG Micra or Micra ES TTI Etc, right?

They did try "upgrading" to the Squirt S4, but the market said "no thanks"  :D The Micra stayed, and the Squirt went bye bye

PST

Everyone has one, even though they haven't made them in... what, ten years? And everyone wants LM to bring it back into production. It's been copied, tweeked, upgraded, miniaturized, supersized, ripped off, and defines the concept.

I think they have a two peak curve in the "iconic"  diagram. First is  PST of course, that started it all. Second is the Wave design and particularly the New Wave/ Charge/ Surge family that share a chassis design and common tools associated with Leatherman and them only, like the flat bits and driver. Now, after all these generics, the PST looks generic too. The Wave/ Charge/ Surge cry out loud "THIS IS LEATHERMAAAAAAAAN!"

I'm a little late to this post, but my vote goes for the PST and OG Supertool.  I still think they are the best!

Dictionary.com defines iconic as

adjective
1.
of, relating to, or characteristic of an icon.
2.
Art. (of statues, portraits, etc.) executed according to a convention or tradition.

To meet the definition it has to be the latest development of the tool that Tim Leatherman envisioned on that European trek almost 40 years ago, so I vote for Rebar.  I think if you traveled back in time and showed your Rebar to Tim Leatherman he would say that it was exactly what he had in mind.
