See where your local population has come from (there do seem to be some mistakes by the way)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2558759/From-Mogul-warriors-European-traders-Interactive-map-shows-fallen-empires-left-stamp-genes.html

Map shows the mixing of genes of 95 different populations across Europe, Africa, Asia and South America
Scientists pinpointed time when mixing took place by looking areas of DNA that exchanged genetic information

To use the map, double click on the location you want to view. You can then use the scroll bar to zoom in and out
Blue circles indicate the local populations. Orange shows the population that this group may have mixed with

My family is from the mountains in Switzerland (Lamontagne means "The Mountain" in French) and in and around the Glasgow area (mother's side) so I doubt there's much movement of either until they came to Canada.

Everything but North America...bha!

As for my family, as far as I can tell, we originate from Libourne France. First to come over was in the late 1600's as part of a french marine detachment.

For anyone who might be interested in some history...I found this interesting article as a PDF on the French military and their nicknaming conventions which explains how the first ancestor of mine who arrived in North America as part of a naval marine unit was named Pierre Sauve dit LaPlant.

The article is on page 18.

And when it came time to do some family research, I was most fortunate to find everything already done for me online!

I think they tried to focus on things that happened thousands of years ago. Many recent nations/countries are missing.
