Just curious to see if anyone carries any Limited Editions or First Production Runs on a regular basis as their user knife. I know I tend to shy away from purchasing any, however I did end up with a First Production model which I promptly sold (thought I was getting a regular one) and a Limited Edition blade (again thought it wasn't marked). I still have the LE one but am loathe to carry it and risk marking it.

My limited edition alox stays put away. I just couldn't bring myself to use one. If I had the money to buy two of the same knife I would use a limited run though.  :tu:

Only carry one if I bought 2.  That said, I love to carry modded saks.

I do beat up a blue Farmer, but I have a NIB one too...

Everything gets carried at least once.  >:D  For the most part, LE's and first production runs don't see regular pocket time, with the exception of a first run orange G10 Case 10318 Stockman.  My MT.O anniversary Wenger has seen pocket duty several times as well, just because.  :)

Tough call, it took me a while to bring myself to carry my custom syph, and I would normally just carry my farmer incase I needed to abuse it but, I've started carrying my custom on a daily basis.. JR

Depends on the reason for me. If it was bought to be a collector or an investment then of course not,  customs on the other hand are bought for the sole purpose of being used in a way that most factory knives can't handle.

Usually the Limited or Rare finds probably are costly, and so I too tend to shy away from carrying them for EDC.

Another reason is being part of my EDC rotation could be a demanding job.  Although I probably never will abuse my tools, they all have practically pledged their lives to their cause.  And the worst part, they do this while knowing they could be easily replaced if they lose a limb or went MIA.  >:D :D

I don't currently carry any limited editions or first production run knives, but have before and wouldn't hesitate to do so again if it struck my fancy.  I may own more knives than I could reasonably carry or use (some of which I have no desire to actually carry or use), and this may make me a collector (not a negative label as far as I am concerned) as well as a user.  However, I don't buy knives as investments, and I don't baby them.  This also means I am not generally interested in paying the steep premium some manufacturers and or sellers seem to think they should get simply because a knife is marked and marketed as a limited edition or first production run.

I still have the LE one but am loathe to carry it and risk marking it.

I say carry it if you want to.  We come into this world with nothing, and we can take nothing with us when we leave it, so you might as well enjoy it now.

Several of the knives I have (slipjoints) are limited editions, of runs of 10 to 100 (e.g. GEC, Queen; most of their regular knives can be considered as limited editions anyway, Case xx Opinel etc.) though some will not say than on them. For SAKs the LE usually means a few thousands  :D.

Unless they have been bought specifically for visual admiration only, or they just look too nice to use, for some reason, they will be carried regularly, as part of my rotation. Some may not be carried because they are not suited to my needs, rather than because they are limited or special editions.

This is excellent advice no matter what the item might be. I think we tend to get hung up on the material things at the expense of more important life experiences.

I think I'll pocket my LE blade as soon as I get home today and start putting as much use on it as I can. :tu:

I carry my custom and limited runs, however I do tend to be very selective where I carry some. I work construction so I dont carry my 1 of a kinds on site but when in the office or other places ill carry them.

I tend to gravitate toward limited pieces for actual use and carry. My most used folders are the limited carbon fiber Kershaw Blur in CPM-154, from an 850 piece run. Also the Bladeforums Skyline, from a run of 500.

My only 111mm SAK that I use is the OH Master RT, and the only Swisstool I have and use is the Spirit RT.

The alox SAKs I use aren't really LEs, but not common models. Wenger SI, old cross red Pioneer, and a Syph custom piece.

I don't have any limited editions or stuff like that... I don't consider myself a collector, and don't think the usual added price is worth the trouble for a marking or wantedness. Still, if I'd get one in some way or another, I'd use it anyway, though usually my "using" isn't anything hardcore.
