A mixed package arrived last week.

I never expected to get a Gerber Multi-lite new. Though the package was Gerber generic, proper papers were included.

The Leatherman ratchet has been long sought after. Not easy to get in germany.

Of course I had to check it. Yes, the Vic mini screwdriver fits into the Gerber corkscrew.
Best regards and stay safe,

Wolfgang

Part two. The LED works as expected. Dim, but o.k.

The paracord bracelet has been reduced and made in the Ukraine. The clasp has a compass, whistle and ferrocerium fire starter. The clasps from Wazzoo are way better, but way pricier, too

The size is a bit large for my wrist, so it sits a bit higher on my arm. No easy fitting; I thought the war/emergency/use case might be over before it gets on my arm  So it comes in my gift box, or if I really have time gets unraveled and made new  :dunno:
Best regards and stay safe,

Wolfgang

Congrats on the Gerber Multi-Lite.

The green lid version seems to be less common than the black lid (there was also a rare purple lid).

Did you know they made at least 4 different tool loads ?  Serrated Blade, Saw, Corkscrew and Snowboard.

There was also some copies ("Jeep or no-name) with small pliers, some with a red LED, some with no LED.

Thanks, Greg!

This was my third Multi-lite. The others have a black lid and also the amber LED.

The first one I got in the late nineties on a flea market in its blister pack. One of my first multi-tools btw (beneath my SwissChamp I assumed for some time never needing anything else... ). It has the saw holder instead the corkscrew and the serrated blade as in the last one. All else stayed the same configuration.

Two years ago I found another one on the bay. Barely used, with serrated blade and awl as different tools. The compartment in the lid contained an additional Philips screwdriver, which the owner might have added.

The further models you mentioned never crossed my paths; no purple lid, no red or without LED, no ads. The snowboard version is equally unknown to me. But I keep my eyes peeled for now. Thanks for the reminder! :hatsoff:

Wolfgang

Nice score! :tu: I have a Multi-Lite as well (black lid, awl instead of corkscrew, dim LED). I hope that someday I'll be able to find replacements for the toothpick, tweezers, and micro screwdriver.

Your best (but still slim) hope is to find a lid (without the tool) that still has the original micro tools in it.

Thanks, Farmer X!

While searching for original Gerber parts, you can use Vic parts instead. I just managed to put a Quattro screwdriver inside the lid; works in one position in the middle, nailnick at the hinge. The original tweezer is some mm too long for my liking, fits only diagonally. The toothpick is nothing to write home about, seems a bit flimsy. T&t from Victorinox fit with the Quattro SD into the lid, either 91 or 58 mm versions. Add the pin, and you got the plus scales minus the pen inside the compartment.

But I surely understand the hunt for original parts.   :salute: Good luck with your hunt!
Best regards and stay safe,

Wolfgang

My latest is a Camillus electrician's knife (late '70s to late '80s tang stamp) that I found for a decent price on Etsy.

Unfortunately, the locking liner for the screwdriver blade doesn't seem to function properly.

It will engage if I press it into place manually, but it won't move into place on it's own when I open the screwdriver blade.

I can't see any obvious damage to the liner that would prevent it from working, so I'm hoping it just needs blasted with WD-40.

Thanks!  :hatsoff:

Atm it is hair-popping sharp. Over the years my Spyderco favourites were from small to big: Laybug, Jester, Dragonfly, Delica & Endura. Not to forget Manix, Sage & Chaparral. So I thought Let's try a Para3 (rhymes only in german ). Next comes its bigger brother, a Para2...
Best regards and stay safe,

Wolfgang

Nothing tool related.
Bought two Recco reflectors.
Been thinking about this for some time now, but a recend story made me finaly buy them.

Last weekend a young (24yo) guy went on a mountain in the german alps, when a oncoming snow storm was in the forecast.
He slipped and fell, breaking both arms and injuring his head according to one of his calls, and he was  in steep slope unable to move and fearing sliding down further.
Snowstorm blast several days, mountain rescue canceled search several times due to weather and risk of avalanches, too dangerous. Helicopters could just fly in short weather windows.
They even used a Recon Eurofighter jet to locate him in the bad weather additional to the used Recco-System on the helicopters.
Only his backpack was found so far.

Today they canceled the search after 5 days of searching. There is no more hope to find him alive, and conditions didnt change to better chances and lower risks for rescue teams.

In the area there is now 1,5m of snow, last weekend winds up to 110km/h, in gullys the snow piles up to 3m. Day temperatures -15°C.

If the snow doesnt melt before winter, he will be found next spring or summer.

If you go into the mountain, make your self findable. Tell your relatives where you go, wear bright colors. Do everything you can. Even if you are dead, you save your relatives a lot of tears.
