axtion bladez Srtx extreme survival tool?
on: March 11, 2014, 12:36:12 AM
For some reason this appeared on ebay while browsing watches , i wouldnt even dream of buying it but got me curious if all the advertising made is real and maybe if it is and someone wants to grab it could see it.

So anyone know anything about that tool? i know what it is for but i dont know if its the holy grail of hatchets as advertised there.

Wow, he's over-selling it a little bit isn't he?  Let's see, a tool I've never heard of, from a designer I've never heard of, from a brand I've never heard of.....  yeah, that just has to be worth $300.   ::)

Hand crafted from 440C.  I could see hand crafting making it worth a little more money, but from 440C?  Not gonna happen.

Too bad he only ships to the US, or I'd make him an offer of $10, which is about all that thing is worth.

Having just bought 440c for springs and waterjet them and heat treated I can tell you exaclty the material and process costs.  About $10 per part.

For my springs (for a batch of 200)

Material cost $2 per part
Waterjet cost $4 per part
Heat treat $2 per part

Now he might spend 40 hrs finishing it, but I doubt it.  If he does its not time well spent.

Yeah, this is the dark side of the Atwood Phenomenon.  People see Peter's stuff selling for big money and they figure they can do the same thing.  What they don't realize is that Peter is a) original and b) good at what he does.

I think if you bought a regular hatchet and a dremel tool with some patience you could probably make the same thing.

There is a sucker born every minute.  I wonder why it was never displayed?  Was he that embarrassed after the purchase?

Edit:
He has a thing for BIG BOLD letters, doesn´t he?
I wonder if teh tool is any more useful than those credit card sized 2Multitools" stamped out of steel.
And - why does even this ultimate one piece tool need to have a  bottle opener?! And while at it - Why doesn´t it have a fish scaler?

Seems to me to be a rip-off of the ATAX Survival Tool.

Note that this one costs 200$ new!

I do not see the improvement ofer a regular axe-head, to be honest.
