Gerber Moment Fixed bladeJMHO
on: March 24, 2014, 07:48:06 PM
Some time ago I bought a Gerber Moment fixed blade from Tim. Back then they were quite difficult to find online, so Tim sorted me out nicely. :salute:

I was very excited when I got it. It looks pretty good, was very sharp and very affordable with a decent sheath. I had hoped that it would be similar to the Gerber Myth Fixed Blade, but with a little bit more edge since it has no finger groove.

However after field testing it I discovered that it has one big flaw.  The scales does not cover the spine of the tang, wich is a pretty serious design flaw in my book. It may look cool, but is not very comfortable. After about five minutes of heavy cutting, it had left a nasty groove in my hand wich also became a nasty hot spot.

I dont know why Gerber designed the Moment this way. There might be a good reason for making it that way, but I dont see it. Its a shame really, because it has a nice blade shape, and it cuts and batonns well.

That might actually do the trick. :tu:
The Moment fixed blade is  quite cheap by the way. ($21 on ebay)

Sadly I look at this kind of thing and see why looks should always come second to function. :-\  Shame is that the blade shape looks nice.
