After I posted the previous pics I went into the basement and started work on a Spartan I bought earlier today (surprisingly cheap for being norway, $32). Got a very nice dark wood bowl (don't know what kind of wood) from a second hand store for $3 which will be enough for many SAK scales. Made new scales for the Spartan using those, glued them on and oiled them while making the lanyard. I like this finish better than the last one which was some much slower drying varnish that makes the scales feel a bit more plastic.

Another great job With some great pictures!

Personally I like using oil to finish woodwork as I am not very good at getting a nice finish with varnish  :ahhh

I don't have the patience for varnish, and I don't like the end result. Besides it just doesn't feel like wood in the end

LOL... i know it looked bad. actually i had drilled a few holes to pump in some hot glue to tighten up the scales. i've had it for years. this was before i i realized how easy the scales came off  :o

hopefully it has a lot of life left in it.

i finished up the pocket pal in cocobolo. i finished the recruit scales with carnuba wax and polish it which made it darker. i'm thinking not to put any finish on the pocket pal

Very nice! I also like the darker look, but I know from experience that some varnishes add a certain feel and smell to the wood that makes it feel...wrong. Don't know about the wax, but both look great either way!

Wanting scissors on my EDC I bought a Climber and moved my wooden scales from the Spartan to it

When I get back to my mom's house later today I'll make a nail nick on the hook... Seems like the purpose of the hook is to open other hooks, because the keyring is in the way of opening it without tools

Super glue. I use a clamp modified with soft paper "bumpers" to press them together when I glue them on, that creates a very tight fit and they stay on like the life of a puppy depended on it while in normal use, but pop out easily if you insert a thin blade in between the knife and scales.

Anyways, since the Climber now has the dark wood scales, my Spartan needed new ones. had some random wood in the basement 8probably curly birch) and made new scales for it, then oiled in Soya oil which brought out the color really nicely.

i also created a nail nick in the hook on the climber, much better now

Cut-off wheel?  Looks like quite a tiny nick.  I find them a pain in the bum to get looking good.

Yep. I save old worn-out cutting wheels that have a much smaller diameter than new ones, I find them quite useful for such tasks where you don't want the full edge of such a cutting wheel digging in.

Well i do have the flex shaft attachement, that makes everything a LOT steadier no matter if you're cutting, sanding or engraving.

I keep putting it off as dremel accessories over here are the same as the US but with a pound sign instead of a dollar  :(

Yeah that shaft is very expensive, i bought mine as a kit and it's much cheaper that way. the small wood cutting saw add-on is the same thing, though not as useful. But trust me, the dremel is aa WHOLE other tool with the flex shaft. It's such a ridiculous difference that it's like having a car with or without wheels

nice work there... it does look like birch. the nail nick looks professional but what is the hook for? i've always thought it was a gut hook for cleaning birds but it does'nt look like most gut hooks i've seen.

It's Ye Olde multipurpose hook, useful for knotwork and carrying grocery bags, amongst other uses. :)  Coincidentally, I could use it as a bloody zipline mount since it'll support twice my weight. >.>
