Now that looks like a very useful tool combo.

I'd prefer it with smooth backsprings though without the backlayered tools and the Pioneer inline awl instead of the combo tool. Can't remember ever using the back layered chisel or technician screwdriver and the in line awl is a 1000x better (not even an exaggeration :P ) than the backlayered one.

It could be done with smooth backs for the saw layers, but it would be tough to get the blade on a spring with no backside tool.  I asked if he wanted the chisel and he figured the more tools the better in those 3 layers so I just went for it.

Yes, I wish there was an easy way to do a 91mm without backlayered tools on the blade layer. :-\

Thats why 93mm SAKs are the best! :D  Thicker tools, no backtools and symmetrical so springs can be flipped.   :tu:

Here's my first mod - I call it the Tom Sawyer (it's a Woodsman really). Modded from a Swisschamp and a Huntsman;

It's a toolset I use most as an EDC and is much easier to pocket than a Swisschamp!

Next up is to mod the rest of my Huntsman into a Camper..........

I have this model and always wondered what it was...I bought it for my Dad from Costco in the mid 90's, it has nylon scales and came with a Classic.
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

That would be a woodsman Dr. I don't think they do them any more which is why I made my own. Great SAK!

Here's my 2nd mod - a 'Scout' - really it's a Camper with a small SD on the saw backspring;

Just curious Magentus - Where is the Huntsman in this?
It looks like a only a Swiss Champ with the pliers, metal saw and fish scaler layers stripped out

BTW - I have a Woodsman (Tom Sawyer!) - no backspring SD compared to yours - and I love it - Great tool selection.

yes, this one is a Cadet. I grabbed a couple of the orange ones a while  back when they were on sale.

Actually the liners from three Cadets , the saw and spring from a My First Vic Plus and the scissors and spring from a Small Climber.

Mods can chew up a lot of donor knives if you want to use all genuine parts...

Hi Huntsman - I took the scissors/parcel hook and back spring, and the lanyard backspring from my Huntsman as the SC was lacking these, and both were important for my mod.

Do you have any pictures of your genuine Woodsman then - I've only seen one on SAKWiki - It's an excellent tool selection. :salute:

Some of the "leftovers" from the Cadet Plus-Plus mod above and a stray pair of Wenger scissors.

It's not finally buttoned up yet as I still have some fine tuning of the scissors to do and need to make a couple of brass liners to replace the temporary aluminium ones.

Here is one modded Wenger (I am calling it a "Compact" Tradesman- 3 layers instead of the regular 4) I finished a few days ago.  :D   I am putting together another Wenger, a modded Cyclist to carry on my wedgie bike bag (attached beneath the seat of bicycles, with patches, a spare tube, tire levers, etc.).

Hey - Thats a Wenger compass on the lanyard - right??!!

I like it - The regular compass set up makes the knife much too thick.

Looking forward to seeing the Cyclist - I always carry a SAK when I'm cycling - Usually just a Huntsman, but was thinking I need pliers.

Very nice PTR - My favourite tools in a very nice compact package.
What's it called? - A Huntsboy??  :D

Actually the liners from three Cadets , the saw and spring from a My First Vic Plus and the scissors and spring from a Small Climber.

The scissors look very old as they have a 'right angle' above the pivot where the handle switches to the blade and also the two handles fit flush together below the pivot when closed.
Compare this to the current ones where there is a gap and a sweeping curved switchover from handle to blade!!
I guess the  84mm scissors have not been around for a long time.

Info on scissors thanks to on old post from Jazzbass I was reading recently

Must get doing a mod myself soon ..... I have a plan  :D

PS. The red one looks good too - I love it when you modders mix up components from the two manufacturers
PPS. Posting tomorrow

How the finished Wenger scissors look compared to the genuine Victorinox 84mm ones.

If you have to ask which is which, I think that proves my point.

Did you modify the scissors and/or the Recruit spring? Or just the rest?

The scissors are untouched, the spring has a bit of grinding at the scissors end for clearance and the rest is shaped to set the closed position of the scissors.

The asymmetrical design of the 84mm range is pain.

I didn't do anything at all other than put the blade and nailfile on the wrong ends of the spring.

The nailfile is very snappy and the blade just feels like a Wenger.
I may swap the nailfile and combo.
I think the combo would be better with the strong snap rather than the nailfile.
