OK, I did it... my first mod  :D

Ladles and jellyspoons, I present the "Nitecarver"

It's an all wood butchering tool with cocobolo scales. ALL the bits came from Neil (you rock), and I managed to bodge together my idea out of it. I managed to salvage a broken tipped small blade and turn it in to something more whittley and regrind the chisel and awl which were both knackered. The scales have been sanded down to 1500 wet & dry so they are really smooth and shiny. The one with the glow dot was not exactly planned - I drilled through the bloody scale on my first hole  :o  After calming down and getting the rest right I decided to fill it with some glow powder set in epoxy from a keyring I have. And lo, the Nitecarver was born

Now for some thread hogging pics....

I'm quite proud of the little thing for a first attempt  :) Happy for any input on possible improvements and ideas for Mod #2.

It is a beaut! I can vouch for it's smoothness! She's been sanding like a demon. Silky smooth scales  :tu:

The glow dot is amazingly bright as well.

You could have cleaned that thumb smudge off the blade in that last picture tho! Tsk!

Well done Nuph  :)

Cheers peeps  :) ....it could do with a bit more polishing on the metal parts but I'm not sure what to do it with. Past 1500 grit, does Brasso do the job or do I need something else to work really fine scratches out with?

Past 1500 I find wet and dry useless (tried 2000 and it just turned to sludge), its time to hit the metal polishes /rubbing compounds/toothpaste :)

Top job by the way, love the scales.  Can't believe that's your first!

You've met Spork   Well I guess that explains the fear of chickens  :-\

I like a nice generic car paint rubbing compound (yellow tube in Halfords) followed by Brasso.  If you're not bored silly with rubbing after that you can then move onto high quality car polish though I only really use that on plastics.  To make it all less laborious blunt the blade edge first and then rub away whilst watching a film or the like.
