I did a basic 5-layer build today using a few spares I had left over. Calling it the Detective. An Explorer with pliers.

Looks like it could be worth a look! I have a make shift solution but one that actually propels the lead would be much better....I’ll get some measurements and see if we can make it work.

Looking really great there with the colours and the peening. If I would dare suggest anything it would be to have the cross either cut through to show the red liner or to embed a bit of the same G10 in the cross to really make it stand out.

It's epoxy with red nail polish. Not great, but good enough!

After some practicing on old used SAKs, this is my first ‘real’ mod. A Victorinox compact. I changed the scales with green micarta scales, changed the liners to brass, etched and stone washed the tools. I am quite happy with how this turned out.

That's a lot of work, I've done brass scales but I'm still to dive into recreating the liners in brass. And the micarta scales really suit to the overall look. Did you mask the tool pivot areas before etching?

Brass liners were a first for me as well. I figured I’d just go for it with my Dremel and a metal file. After that I sanded the edges and polished them. It was a lot of work, but much easier than I thought.
The micarta scales I got on Etsy.
I did mask the tool pivot areas before etching. One of the things I learned when tinkering with the older SAKs I practiced on, was which areas I did, and which I didn’t have to mask.

 :tu: great work. It's not worth me ordering scales due to the shipping costs, but I have made a few myself from brass, stag and buffalo horn. I've kinda come full circle as I tend to now stay with OEM scales, but mod the layers.

Slacked off from the forums for a bit now… but I’m back… hopefully…

Anyway, here’s a mod I just finished recently… idea came from the Master Ranger both Poncho and myself built… what if there was an alox version… and since I wanted to try double barrels per pivot, wala… Here’s Jalox XL…




And here it is with Jalox and Mini Jalox…

Funny, I recently made the exact same tool selection, just ordered the layers differently (and obviously with the more ordinary silver scales).
