Yes, those are mosaic pins. Actually those are set as plugs over the normal pin and bushing.

I was wondering if they were structural or not.  I couldn't work out how they could be though.

I made myself a new Saddle stitching awl...and a matching SAK from bits and pieces to go with it.

The wood is Pacific Yew.

OFF TOPIC!

SporkBob,

Do you do saddle repairs?

Inquiring minds...

No I don't... "saddle stitching" is a standard hand-sewing method for leather done with two needles through holes made with a diamond bladed awl. I make leather knife sheaths using saddle stitching.

The nearest thing I've done to horsetack is a mini-Saddlebag/purse for a friend...along with a leather covered canteen to match.

Yes, saddle stitching is my preferred way to sew leather also. I have done quite a bit of lacing, and that can get complicated quick. I do not however like the added thickness it imparts a piece.

The nice thing about saddle stitching is this. If a thread gets cut, it won't unravel. It is a very durable sewing method.

I've done some lacing too...like that needle wallet in the photos. I don't really find too many applications I like to use it for.

Do you do tooling as well?

Nice work.

I like doing figure belts the most.

Here are a few examples of my work.

I love leather working. Nothing like pounding the tools to eliminate any of the days frustrations. Only problem is I don't have the time I would like to give it. I took it up as something I figured I could do in retirement. Seeing that is probably a good 20 years away, I figure I might actually be good at it by then.  :D

EDIT:

Here is a belt that I made for a First Nations person. He wanted something that would have significance for him...so I did a lot of research, particularly into the Ojibwa People. This was a fun one to make. I especially like the research and the meanings that I placed on his belt. Another figure belt with a hidden story. I saw an image somewhere, and figured it would work for this project. I stylized all the Buffalo hunters as pictographs, including the buffalo. This hunting scene was broken up by 4 tableaus based upon Ojibwa history and legend.

I finished my Pedicure Slim. It is a 1 layer 58mm SAK with a nailfile and a cuticle pusher.

Here is my Egghead. Depending how you thing about it, it is either a knifeless MiniChamp or a Rambler with the blade replaced with a ruler. I took off the end of the nailfile to make a 4mm flathead screwdriver.

You could always use the 2mm screwdriver.

All gone a bit quiet here so I'll add one.  Just finished this one for a chap on another forum, it's an Explorer Plus with a scissor/saw swap.  Does make for a nice SAK.
