The most disgusting thing I have ever seen

I'm not squeamish- I've seen enough car accidents, street violence and other obscenities that very few things really bother me these days.  That having been said, I saw something today that had me cringing like a... well, I have no idea what would possibly cringe that much!

I was watching How It Is Made again on the Discovery Channel, a show that I always find fascinating, no matter how simple the item they were making is.  In fact, I was originally riveted to this episode because they showed how to make carpet, a process I was familiar with due to a job I worked long ago... but that's another story.

The next segment was about optical laser surgery, and honestly, if it didn't have such miraculous results, I would think it was little more than the modern version of medieval torture.  I won't go into details, but the idea of having one's eyeball held open with a stainless steel spreader, then having a small steel ring suction cupped to it so they can slice open the cornea...  and of course there is all was, bit by bit, illustrated on a 27" TV, in living color.  It was a darned good thing I skipped breakfast this morning, because if I hadn't, it would have skipped me.

While I'd seriously consider having it done if I had vision problems, I'd also really prefer to be as doped up as humanly possible during the mess!

Yup, I did, and never had any problems with it.  I've seen my share of real life carnage and while it wasn't pleasant, it was never a problem for me to deal with.  In fact, I've seen more of my own innards than I think any one person should ever see, and it didn't bother me.  Given the choice again, next time I have knee surgery I'd rather be unconscious than watch it again, but that's mostly because I get bored and fidgety too easily!

I've seen what happens when a guy takes a header off the Bloor Street Viaduct, and I've seen what happens when someone in a pickup truck argues with a train, and while tragic, none of it has ever caused me to writhe like that!

     I am glad I am not the only one that thinks its gross.  My wife had it done and the results were awesome but it gives one an uneasy feeling while watching on that tv screen.

I find it can be the oddest of things that can effect you no matter how much nasty stuff you have seen .I had to attend at a sudden daeth where the person had been left for a about a month in a flat all doors and windows shut and the central heating running that didn't put me up or down

We typically eat at Burger King about once a month (in a jam it's quick and 2 min walk away) and last month the one day we decided to go, they were closed...(strange a fast food joint closed at lunchtime!) so we thought lets go around the corner and get Macdonalds... I have been avoiding McD's for years, and this trip did not help their cause to gain me as a customer... it was the worst burger and fries I've had in years. They're also bombarding us with infomercials here about how Macdonalds uses all natural ingredients... (the beef) I think they have put the nail in the proverbial coffin as I don't think the wife or I will dare go near another Macdonalds again.

I had a Mc Chicken burger with this awfull mayo sauce , it was straight after I had chemo ( about 12 years ago ) and was the first thing I brought up when I started being sick that night  I can just about stomach a Big Mac now but that Mayo sauce is a big no no

I've seen a few traffic accidents and pretty bad deaths up close and personal which were terrible.    I watched a guy get his hand crushed off in a bottling machine at the brewery and another get his thumb removed in a glue roller in the labeling maching.    I had to pick the flattened remains of his thumb out of the glue bucket which was not pleasant..

But the worst was seeing a guy get his hand lopped off in Saudi as punishment for theft, and the next guy have his head removed with a scimitar for drug smuggling.   Maybe it was because it didn't have to happen or that peope were all gathered waiting for it to happen, but that still gives me the cold sweats when I think about it.

Can't argue much with the results as there were only 10 or 12 crimes announced per week in Saudi while I was there.   The methods might be questionable, but man do you think twice before stepping out of line after seeing the consequeces.

PS:   Ducttape, that picture was seriously uncalled for and no one should have to view that kind of sickness.

I too have been nauseated by walking into various McDonalds over the years.  The smell just overwhelmed me to the point that I had to either leave the restaurant or head for the restroom to vomit.

With me it isn't so much the meaty smell, but the combination of meat and the various condiments they put on their sandwiches.

I've never suffered that instant-nausea reaction in any other fast food restaurant other than McDonalds.

I never visit McDonalds unless it is the only place available and I'm very hungry.  I just don't care for their food - I'd rather go to any other fast food joint.
