Now i feel like ive been hit by a car :-(

I went out for a ride today,it was a last minute decision as i was going to go to the gym (safer lol )well i was 5mins from my house when a lady driver overtook me and cut me up and then slamed on her brakes,i went straight into the back of her $:-\$ well words was said. She argued back

and off i went oh yes the story isn't over ,i finnaly got the where i ride off road,well off i went flying down a dust track and got to the corner and boom nearly hit another cyclist

luckily i drifted around the corner and missed him,nope not finnished yet

off i went through my local heathland thinking this isnt a good ride stopped for a drink and food,well off i went as had a important meeting at work so headed in that direction via my docs to get my prescription, came towards a main rode i was ok on the left and ok on the right but there was a council pickup going passed very slow,i decided i could easily make it onto the main road but sadly the car on the right decided to exelerat and over take the council van so boom she hit me full on at about 40-50mph i came off her bonnet went about 12ft high and hit the tarmac with a smack to my head, $:-\$ well luckily the helmet saved my head and got a few cuts and grazes,front wheel bent tire pushed off chainring bent and bar tape ripped,but all i can say is thank god for cycling helmets,im a bit saw now and got a headache but im ok,so stay safe out there guys n gals

Good lord Zed what a horrible chain of events. I'm just so glad you are ok but the headache and the head injury should be checked I think. I'm glad you are experienced enough to wear a helmet.

Cheers mate,ive wore a helmet since 89 as head injuries are one of the main traumas coused to a cyclist,i got checked out and just got back from AE,ive got to take it easy today,i really ache now but things could of been a lot worse .

Is a helmet optional in the UK? Here in Canada it is the law to wear one.

As for the rest of it...good lord. Talk about an ill fated ride. Happy to hear your doing a lot better than the events would suggest.

I´m glad to hear you made it out quite ok!
Although I suspect there is not much to hurt in that noggin...My wife always says "it´s hard to crack a soggy bread" when I hurt my head and i´m not sure its a compliment.

JK - I wish you a speedy recovery and hope there is not too much damage doen to the bike.

Thanks guys,feeling sore now but ok,got the night off work,yes got the girls number and she had mine,she was also shook up and she rang me too see how i was,bikes okish,i bent the chainring back but the front wheel needs trueing,ill do that another day and fit the tire back on

im just glad ive not broke any bones

Now now chaps. Helmets are optional in the UK and there are good arguments both for and against wearing them. MTO isn't the place to be having these discussions.

Im not saying that cyclist should or shouldnt wear a helmet but mine definitely saved me from serious head injury

I took a big tumble off the low side of my mountain bike one night many years ago. Landed head first. I still reckon I gave myself a concussion. Soon as the bump went down,I got my first helmet,re painted it in Jarno Saarinen's colours,and have worn one ever since.

As I said; I'm not remotely anti-helmet, but I do think it should be a case of personal choice rather than totally mandatory.

I wear a lid everyday too as it's just not worth taking a chance IMO :?
