I'll be starting my review on the leatherman surge not to long after this review is done.  I'm excited to try it.

Great real-life overview of the MP600, can't wait for similar content when you "do" the Surge ;)
EDC and OCD. A wicked mix.

Joel, given that you've put both the OHT and the MP600 through the wringer, which do you think is the better?
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Hmmmm?

I guess I would have to say I prefer the oht but that's only because it's got a better tool set for me. My thoughts may change after I get the mods I plan on doing to the Gerber done.

Both tools while being very similar are different in many ways and both are great at what they do.

I also got to add I'm jaded because I'm a Leatherman Fan .

The oht has more style than the mp600 and I like that I can lock the pliers shut.

A person will be well served by either one.

the mp600 cost alot less than a oht. If I was going to buy a new tool for work I would get the mp600 because of the cost.  I'm not sure the oht is worth the extra cash for being such a similar tools.

Now if I was buying a new tool for off work to mess with I'd go with the oht just because I like it's style and I think it's a cooler tool but hey that's just me.

You can't go wrong with either.

Not much action for Mr Blunt today.

He did help with some wiring on a water meter.  Not much of a challenge but he was handy to have with. He saved me a few trips to the truck because I had all the tools I needed.

He's been a good tool.

I may have to give a diesel a try it seems to be well liked.

... SNIP ...

I'm happy I did this review.  Gerber usa gets a big  :tu:

There imports on the other hand I still plan on staying away from.

one junk suspension was enough  :D

Joel, sorry to break the news matey, but you need to make your mind up pal ;) The Diesel is actually one of the many tools made overseas I believe - but they're not all as glum as the Suspension.

I Moved another home today.

This one took a bit of work to get out of the hole it sunk into after being in the same spot for 20 yea rs or so.

I used Mr Blunt's cutters alot today to free it up for all the phone lines , cable tv, heat tape etc.

I have to say this and I'm not to happy doing so this late into this review but the cutters on my Leatherman tools are way way better than Mr Blunt's.  Maybe I just got used to them after using Leatherman tools with the same cutters for so long but to me they are superior. Leatherman cutters actually cut where I feel the Gerbers crush .

They work fine  not saying they don't but leatherman do a better job easier and faster.  There was several time Today I had to take 2 or 3 cuts to totally cut wires I know my super tool would have bit off with one bite.

I wish I would have noticed sooner but all the wire I cut before has been smaller gauge Trailer wires not coaxial Cabel and heavy duty electric wire.

 Im Disappointed

I don't doubt it is a good tool. Wire cutters are important to me though and I don't want to downgrade.  :P

I *think* that a problem with their replaceable cutters, not Gerber cutters in general.
Leatherman's replaceable cutters aren't as good as their old ones if you're only cutting soft things.

Not sure about that - i met different way of the MP 600 cutter making problems 1-2 days ago.

In my case it was a very thin/small electronics cable (with it´s insulation under 1mm dia) with superfine strands inside.

The 600 did cut the wire, but each cut was not complete, it always left a few strands uncut - these strands were hairthin, so i would say they just slipped between the cutting bits.

The 154cm cutters of my Surge didn´t had those problems, it was able to cut small slices without lefting any hairthin strands uncut.
Have fun.

Bye,
Michael

Something tells me the Surge is going to be your favorite MT yet. I just hope you don't mind swapping between the removable file and saw too much.

I'm looking forward to using it.

I think you may be right Steve.

I don't think the file saw swapping will be to much of a issue.

I was driving our back up truck we move houses with.  A old IH my boss bought from the hwy dept. I don't know the year or model.  It's early 80s with a industrial cab.

Last 2 days of Mr Blunt review.

I was disappointed in the cutters again today when I was removing a cloths line and it couldn't cut the wire that was used to hang cloths off of. It was pretty thick and hard but I know I cut the same stuff with my oht.

The wire Mr Blunt couldn't cut. I had to get a linemans pliers from the truck to cut it.

Said wire

and (as you pointed out already)  the file did not have a metal saw on the bottom, so you could not handle it that way either.
If I can help, let me know

Could you save some of that wire and test it with the OHT, ST300 and Rebar etc?
