Fixed Hunting Knife collection.
on: July 21, 2014, 07:23:56 PM
Funny how when I try to research things online, I tend to find my own stuff off of Google. I guess that is what happens when you take thousands of photos of multi-tools for this forum. Not that that is an issue...but comical at times. Likewise, I had just done a net search for Herman Duerrschmied, who was a local knife making artistan...and pulled up this old 2010 thread about the display I created around his knives.

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=21817.0

The display has changed, but I still have the knives and the beautiful sheaths they came in. I was hoping to find something I couldn't find back in 2010, and came up with nothing other than what I previously posted in here. Anyhow, his knives are beautiful, and the sheaths he created are stunning. This jump started my fixed hunting knife collection. I am happy to say, I am not that big into collecting these unlike multi-tools and SAKS. I do appear to be on a somewhat survival tool kick of late as well. But enough of that. I present to you some very old photos I took back in 2009 when I was using a black velvet background for photographs.

Here is a nice knife. This one has the name of the artisan and "The end of an era" etched on the other side. The widow had two of these made, and sold one to me.

These were sold from a select few local stores, mostly the Trading Post, and each knife I was told, is different. When I came across them, his wife was trying to downsize the inventory as her husband had just passed away. I walked in at the right time as it was a garage sale and I almost didn't know about them until she mentioned something about custom hunting knives.

This one has a bit of sentimentality about it. This was my father's hunting knife that he had when he started hunting. I think he may have been either in High School, or fresh out of it. This is a very nice Original Buffalo Skinner with Stag handles, and a leather sheath.

Next up is a pair of Buck Knives.

12 pt Omni Hunter Combo with PakLite Caper.

10 pt Omni Hunter Combo with PaKLite Guthook.

A Buck 119 Special.

Schrade Uncle  Henry Golden Spike.

Fox-n-Hound Damascus Stag Horn Skinner.

I also have a Marbles Damascus Crown Hunter that I can't seem to find the photo of in my archives.

EDIT: Here is the Marbles Hunter mentioned above. I had to take new photos of it.

Nice collection, love the set from the "garage sales", very pretty knifes.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

What a garage collection of knives. I just loved it.
If I need to pick some good EDC tools.
Then I would take my love leatherman multi tool wave and a flash light. Other are just a waste !!!

Here are some of my fixed hunting knives...sorry for the picture quality...

My Buck 119 that I've had for more than 20 years:

A Buck 619:

The Buck 639...this is my nice one, I have a "beater" one that I found in a pawn shop for a song as well:

And finally, a knife that sort of blurs the line between folder and fixed since the entire blade assembly swivels to become a guthook, the Leatherman Steens:

Unfortunately my Steens is missing the sharpener it originally came with...some day I'll find one.
