I know I keep coming back to this point, but it does make you wonder why you'd pay more for the exotic?

In a more liberal UK,Squeaks and Pingos would be pointless against an Ambitious
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Something tells me the only real difference you'll see in the higher end Spyderco is better corrosion resistance. Edge retention will likely be there too, but not as much of a jump as one might think.

The Ambitious, Tenacious and Persistence are all great knives for the money.

Day 115:
I gave Ambi a quick touch up today.  She wasnt dull, I just knew she could be sharper.
The daily feathering of dry birch wood for the fireplace pluss cutting some heavy zipties and some electric fence wire at work today took its toll on the edge.

Yup. The 8cr13mov dulls pretty easily with any sort of mild use. Not a huge deal though. Easy to dull means easy to sharpen.  :tu:

This.

I did not bring my china Spydie over here with me so had forgotten how easy it is to sharpen. After sharpening my co workers knife the otherday I really want to get home and mess with mine.

What a bargain of a knife.

Day120:

I just got the Dragonfly 2 and I have had a bit of a dilemma.
The dragonfly isnt very comparable to the Ambitious in size and sturdiness.
The Salt 1 is in this regard a more comparable knife. But the H1 steel isnt as far as I understand a "better" steel than 8Cr13MoV, its just a more corrotion resistant one.
In hindsight, I probably should have gotten a Delica, but I didnt.
I have for now decided to carry the the Dragonfly in fase two of the challenge, wich starts today.

First impressions will follow later today.

I know it hasnt been 6months, but I think 120 effective days is sufficient to discover a knifes pros and Cons.

First, lets sum up the Ambitious:
Pros:
-Nice price
-well built
-sturdy construction
-easy to sharpen
-strong pocket clip

Cons:
-a bit heavy for its size
- the pocket clip needed to loosen up a bit.

All in all a great knife. Especially considering its price.

Dragonfly Day 1:

First some comparison pics to Ambi:

First impressions:
Compared to Ambi, the Dragonfly is very light. It also has a shorter cutting edge, but the blade length is pretty similar.
The Dragonfly does not feel as solid as the Ambitious, but is much more pocket friendly. I hardly feel it in my pocket.
The pocket clip is also stronger than it looks.
The blade is razor sharp right out of the box.

However based on first impressions only: If I had seen these two knives beside each other in a store, and not known their origins or price. I would have guessed that the Ambitious was the pricier one. And would also probably have bought the Ambitious over the Dragonfly if they had the same price.

I wonder if I still think the same in 120 days?

Well, just from the pictures, I like the look of the Amitious better. And always felt that the FRN? plastic handles look cheap.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see this in the long-run.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

No.
This won't do at all.
As broke as i am right now I have to insist you give me your address and I'll send you a beater G10 Dragonfly.
On second thoughts I'll send my backup new one so I don't have to clean the old one to get it through customs.
Go on, I dare you.

If I understand you right, I bought the wrong type Dragonfly?
Is the G10 one that much better?

If you insist, that I should use the G10 version instead of the FRN one, I guess I could let you borrow me a beater one for 120 days, but only if you let me pay for shipping.

Update:
I have accepted Zoidbergs incredibly generous offer, and will borrow a G10 Dragonfly from him.
Until it arrives, and that might take a while as Zoidberg could not get much further away from me (without a spaceship) if he tried, I will carry the FRN one.
Ill reset the daycounter when it does, and compare it to the FRN Dragonfly and Ambi, and start 120 days with the G10 Dragonfly.

Ehhh... You are bunch of lucky guys. :) I would love to get Dragonfly into my hands, but prices here in Poland are ridiculous. They cost over 1/4 of my monthly salary. :-/

Yeah, tell me about it, but it's quite normal here in Poland that prices are "premium"(DF cost little over $100) and semi low salaries looks like sad joke (about $450/month).

But back to the topic. I must admit that this little Ambitious knife is great piece of steel for the price. I was using his bigger brother Tenacious (until I overestimated his strength as prybar) and it was tremendous knife although little too big as EDC knife.

And thanks for the welcome mate. :)

Day 2:
The Dragonfly has been used to feather firewood, wich it does ok.
It has also been used to cut open a few packages. , wich it does very well.

I also tightened the blade a bit today. It was not because it was loose, but because I like it a little bit tighter.

Heres a pic of it at work:
