Well, the results are in,and Scotland is still part of the Union.

The Kingdoms are still United.
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Thanks for the update.  Given that my mother is from Glasgow I was hoping I wouldn't have to cut myself in half.  :P

You may think the referendum would not affect me, as I live in Spain. But I work in Gibraltar, a UK territory. My payslip gets exchanged from GBP to Euro depending on the exchange rate. A Scottish no would have most likely put the Pound in a freefall, and may have cut my salary by as much percent as the pound would have dropped. Hence I am glad it was a no.

I was thinking about Cataluña, in Spain. they're trying to hold their own referendum to become independent from Spain.

Add Basque territory in Spain to. Then Flanders in Belgium, then Northern Ireland and Wales in the UK... If this segregation thing picks up who knows where it will end?

Without getting political in any way I will say that, with nearly 85% voter turn-out, this was an excellent example of Democracy in action. :salute:

The markets certainly breathed a sigh of relief.
The pound would have seriously plummeted on that one.

I could not find one analysis outside of Scotland that saw a positive outcome to Scottish independence.  That was fairly sobering.  (Although I've stated before, there is a romanticism about Scottish Independence...)

I wonder how much all this has cost and how many pockets have been lined.......and who foots the bill!!

I used to really enjoy hearing political arguments.....these days I can't bear the sight of any of them. After the way a certain former UK Prime Minister  used his position to create his vulgar wealth I now treat them all with sheer contempt.
I'll stop there!!

Regardless of the outcome,I do think this has been a triumph of democracy and constructive engagement. Well done Scotland, and well done Briton in general :salute:

I'm surprised at the actual turnout, I was expecting it to be more of a split.

It was pretty decisive.

I'm glad that we have the opportunity to have such a debate. I'd have been devastated and a bit cross if Scotland did leave, but I wouldn't have wanted to live in a country that didn't at least give them the chance.

Still pretty close. From what I see on the news fights broke out between the two sides after result was announced.

55\45 is very very close.
The worrying part is that I'm guessing they'll be whole communities here that were united together in wanting their independence and their own identity.
How the UK government will now attempt to ease the tension in these communities is anyone's guess.
Doubtful that this will simply be forgotten, my view here is that this will simmer for years and many Scots will feel cheated. I really don't think for a second that the United Kingdom will ever be truly united ever again. I haven't seen the papers up there, but knowing how tabloids love to "fuel the fire" in these kind of events, I think they should take some of the responsibility in quashing the heat generated here.
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.
