His post from earlier should explain:http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=54872.0
I'm in two minds between this, and a small TinkerMy rider to the challenge is that I'll still be carrying either a KST or my bladeless Fuse as backup,as should there be a SAK fail,I can't just shut my shoulders at a customer and say I can't do something because of a MTo challenge I will, however fess up to any such events
Those are great tools. The More is my main blade for camping, hunting and bushcrafting in general. I would to get some of the other that you have mentioned, but money is kinda tight, and I can spend so much on cool toys. Nate

At last count I'd got over 60 flavours to choose from Forced to choose between blueberry and toffee, I'd probably go for toffee (though the rum and raisin is very nice too) unless it was for all day and I'd ditch both and stick to the plain That's cool, and 60 flavours to choose from! Could you tell just by nose, which one is which? Probably not. Some are quite distinct, apricot, toffee, sea breezes, thyme and lemon, chocolate orange, christmas pudding ... but many are more subtle in their differences. A lot of them also change quite a bit dependent on air quality, humidity, temperature and such, and can be pleasant one day but not another

New to this forum but I'm in as I have been thinking along these lines recently.Over the last 20 years I have been carrying a Soldier, Recruit and more recently a EvoWood 10. Minimalist already. Either I carry my Waiter or Alox Bantam or would a partnered Alox Minichamp/Alox Solo be classed as minimalist?
There's some decidedly non-minimalist stuff being talked about, and the challenge hasn't even started yet. Stop making excuses and give it a go, you big jessies.

Stop making excuses and give it a go, you big jessies. Minimalism is "making due with what you've got"... Improvise! You'd be surprised what you can do with the most basic SAK if you just go with it. The Pioneer/SI or similar are easily up to 99% of the tasks people could reasonably ask of a pocket knife type tool.

The Pioneer/SI or similar are easily up to 99% of the tasks people could reasonably ask of a pocket knife type tool. You guys have got me really thinking about giving it a go without any MTs. The only thing I really feel I may need is the pliers, which I doubt my Compact can replicate, no matter how great the improvisation skills may be I may try it out at first though, and if I encounter a need for a multitool, that may cause me to start carrying one again.
I've been monitoring my SAK uses for the last few days and I think I'll fail very soon with the Waiter. LOTS of use of scissors, awl, and phillips once or twice. All the tools the Waiter lacks. BTW, when do we start?
Pliers is the only thing I do sometimes need and when I do they're sure nice to have! I've EDC'd the same Leatherman classic for 20 yrs now. When I stop and think about it the one tool I use on that Leatherman 90% of the time is the pliers. The screwdrivers occasionally. The knife blade almost never, the other tools no because the SAK has those. In fact I don't even think of the Leatherman as a knife at all - it's a tool. If your occupation or lifestyle requires a specialized tool (pliers are def that IMHO) then yes you need that tool. Otherwise the basic Leatherman I have actually has all the same implements my Pioneer has. A dilemma yes! I'd almost say if you carried a MT for the purpose of ONLY it's pliers - due to personal needs in your day to day tasks - then that's not necessarily a violation of the Challenge... Because pliers are a tool that cannot be replicated by anything else. If you do a lot of outdoors, tinkering or handyman activities a MT, flashlite and SAK are a basic necessity in life. If you're an average Joe who just drives to a desk job and then goes home again to watch TV, bbq dinner, etc then a fairly simple SAK will get you through life pretty easily. Geez, most folks nowdays don't even carry a pocket knife or MT at all! By that standard we here are all MacGyvers!
for the love of god somebody stop this madness !!!before one of you gets caught out and needs to scale a fish or something needs a 'hook'
My Compact has a hook. Nate
