Needed my pliers from my cyber 34 yesterday.
Had to resort to my tool box for  a pair.

Day 1111: The Return

So, I've decided not to give up and continue. However, I added the Victorinox Bit holder with a PH1 bit.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

First day back to work since Emily was born last Wednesday. Fortunately, I'm working from home until next Wednesday. Woot!

Day 15, didn't do a blessed thing.

Used the tweezers from the J10 to remove lint build up from the drive axel of a mini RC skateboard....beat that for a weird use!

I'm out. :-\

I know I could probably last till the end of the month but don't want to anymore. My other tools are giving me sad looks and begging me to carry them.

Truthfully this has been a bit strange, like listening to the world cup games on the radio (sport of your choosing) while you have your big screen TV in the room, turned off.

Good luck to all of you but I'm returning to my Syph007 Urban Pioneers PhD and LM Mini. :P

Still in. Sportsman has faced everything so far. Mostly for food prep, nail maintenance and a few screwdriving tasks.

I'm still in.  I will confess to the occasional fondle of my other tools though, in particular my black Climber plus and my Spirit. :-[  Turns out I really miss scissors, nail file, a proper phillips driver and pliers.

Yup - scissors, in-line philips, even the mag glass! Plus my SI doesn't have T&T so I miss them as well!

I'm still in, after my hiccup with the gifted Crunch.  Scissors and phillips have been missed the most, pliers close behind.  On the other hand, my tool box has gotten more use than usual ;)

I'm still in too, but like others, I miss my other carry (Rogueneer...duh ;)), and do fondle it and my MTs as I normally would.  I've been carrying a plier MT anyway as normal for plier needs, which I said I planned on doing from the beginning.  I am relying on only my Compact for anything that comes up though, and it has been plenty sufficient.  I have not used the multi at all though, which shows just how often I actually need a plier MT.  In all honesty, this is proving that I could likely get by for the most part with only the Compact.  However, I do occasionally need pliers or other implements from a multi, and am thankful when I have it on me at the time.

I guess, if I had been smart, I would have steered clear of this challenge as it caused me to buy another SAK.  I was more than happy with my Rogueneer, and now I'm questioning just how badly I need all its implements.  This is also making me want another custom based on the Compact (which is what my Yeochamp started from).  I would want to add only one layer to keep it slim for lighter carry, and it's between the metal file and mag/phillips layer.

I like the mag/phillips layer, especially for the possibility of using the magnifier, but I honestly rarely use that (this could change with age though ;)), or the phillips for that matter.  I've also found that the combo opener tool's tip on the Compact can function as a phillips, so that makes the mag/phillips layer even less necessary.  This also reduces the need for the separate opener layer, as the can opener's tip acts as a phillips as well.  I rarely use them for anything actually, but I like the idea of their versatility.  I do rather like the metal file as it's great for poking/prodding/light prying and just seems like a versatile tool in comparison to the mag/phillips.

The only issue I really have with the Compact, or a custom based on it, is the lack of the small secondary blade.  I don't like using the main blade for cutting tape to open boxes, packages, etc. as it's a dirty job that gets adhesive all over the blade.  I prefer that for the little one, plus it's more precise for these tasks, which is a plus.  I prefer to keep the main blade clean and sharp for things like food if needed, and let the little one handle the dirty work.

So yeah, sorry for the unexpectedly long babble session there

Forgive me, for I have failed. I had to use the Surge yesterday after work. Yes I could have ran to the shop and grabbed some pliers and a phillips, but I had a weak moment and said smurf it. But in my defence, I had a coffee pot down (needed new cord) and I was with out coffee. Now I have been shot at, charged by Holstein Bulls, kicked by horses, bitten by dogs, found a dead body, stomped by cows, fell through a shed roof, watch one of my tractors go up in flames, but going without coffee. NOT! GONNA! HAPPEN!
And when I fail, it is epic! Not only did I grab my Surge, I grabbed my Mini Mag Pro and my SOG Vulcan and rocked that smurf for the rest of the day. I was looking for stuff to cut and fix. Some of didn't even needed fixed or cut, but I did it anyways damn it. And it felt good!
So today, I am back to the Compact and Solitaire. Hopefully I got that out of my system for the rest of the month.

Ha, for me, going without coffee is a valid excuse for a lot of things.  Did you fix the coffee pot with your cutting/fixing spree?

Yes I did. It needed a new cord. Which I picked up on my way home from work. And I didn't really feel like going to my shop when my Surge was just in the next room.
