Gerber LMF II ??
on: October 08, 2014, 11:45:55 PM
So I've been getting even more interested in fixed blade knives, and have been looking at the Gerber LMF II Survival in Coyote Brown.  I like how it comes with the leg straps, has a built in sharpener, and comes with a strap cutter.

Anyone here have one, and what are your thoughts on it?  I need one like I need a hole in the head, but I drool a little everytime I look at one.

I had one a while back. The leg strap did not work well for me. The way the sheath is designed to keep retention on the knife causes it to rub heavily on the rubber handle when inserting or pulling the knife in/out of the sheath. I was also not to keen on the shape of the handle. I would never carry this knife. I think it is the sheath that really makes it a issue. If you wan't something to put into a pack or leave out while at a campsite then it would be great, but for me I would never imagine carrying it.

Don't know to much about the LMF II. But give a Mora Bushcraft Black a try. Very good knife. Comes with a sharpener and ferro rod. And the knife itself is a work horse.

Thanks for the info Capt!  :salute:  I'd also like to get the Mora Bushcraft, and a few other fixed blades.  I've always been more into fixed blades than MT's, SAK's or folders, but never really bought any.

I should have a Ka Bar tomorrow (thanks Stew!  :salute: ), and I have a Mora (thanks Stew!  :salute: ), a BG Ultimate Survival Fixed blade (yes, I do like it! :D ), and a Gerber Warrant.  I want to expand my collection a bit more though.

I currently have the BG knife in the Jeep, but it will be replaced with the Ka Bar, and I really want to use the Mora as I think it's a fantastic knife, so I've been thinking about making that my primary kitchen knife.  I've never really used the Warrant for anything, but have used the BG one a few times.

These are what I have on my radar right now:
 Gerber LMF II
 Ka Bar Becker BK2 Companion
 ESEE 6P-B

I'm in no rush to get these, but would like to have them one day.

Derekmac The Gerber LMF II is a well made knife, great for camping and outdoor, I haven't use it to much, but it's a really good looking knife.  The BG is mainly inspired in the LMF II, but the LMF II is heavier and a bit thicker, the sheat is also similar to the BG and I don't have problems with it.

In my opinion is a great knife to have.

On the other hand the BK2 is also an awesome knife.  For camping is a little monster, kind of heavy but pretty useful. Both are great choices and they made it to my collection.  I think you will like them too.

Thanks DL.  I don't mind the feel of the BG, or the sheath.  The LMF II will probably be the next fixed blade that I try to acquire.
