LM Piranha 2

I started thinking about all the times I used a multi-tool lately when i'm outside my home/work and it seemed like its always this one.  I sharpened the "box cutter" enough to where it functions pretty much like a blade and then you would be surprised how useful the scraper is.  It sits in my back pocket  without stabbing me when I sit or causing a bulge.  I don't miss the pilers since I would normally use them in place of a spanner, the box cutter does the job of scissors, and even though the screw driver is awkward it does the job.  If you asked me for only one multi-tool to use ever it wouldn't be this one but EDC to me is a stop gap, something to get something done on the fly when you don't have your normal tools available.  For me nothing else comes close, but I would love to here suggestions.

From what I have already:

ST300 (if hacks are allowed then Charge TTi)
Fenix LD20 (2 x AA)
Tramontina Machete (wooden handle with 20" carbon steel blade)

MT over SAK for the large pliers, easy find batteries for flashlight, fixed blade is a must so had to ditch the folder.

That is quite na interesting choice!!!

Just a very simple minimal EDC that might work would be as follows for urban and non heavy duty especially for ladies:
A Swiss Card Lite/ Vic Signature Lite/ Vic Midnite Manger
A AAA flashlight like Fenix E01/Maglite Solitaire etc.
A LM Squirt ES4/PS4/Micra depending on what you see yourself needing on a daily basis
Optional: Spyderco Drangonfly or a Vic Pioneer(This would definitley be my preferred choice)

You would get a decent light-duty tool contingent with a minimal weight but limitations will be high.

I posted this because the OP said this might help her choose what she might want to carry on a daily basis and bearing in mind that most ladies have a hand bag that can accomodate for these items with relative ease without adding a significant amount of weight but that being said I also have no idea what tasks need to be undertaken and accomplished.

MT: Victorinox Spirit X, personally it's the gold standard of MT with pliers

Flashlight: Maglite 2AA Multi-mode LED or 4sevens Quark 2AA, I like AA lights and they are widely available.  Maglite 2AA led probably is not as efficient as 4sevens, but again, it's easy to find and replace.

Fixed blade: Currently I still haven't found the Queen, most blade shapes I like are in 01 steel, but I sure hope someday I will find something similar to a Mora Classic 2 with 3V and a tad longer blade.  For now, it's LT Wright OFITW(the most innovative sheath I have evern owed)

"Lifetime" to me means minimal.

a SAK and some sort of light.

Given the different models of SAKs, and the option of mods, you can find one to fit your needs.

Multitool: Swisstool X or Surge. Realistically it will be the swisstool, because the Surge is not really legal to carry around here.

Flashlight: Fenix LD09

Knife: A small fixed blade, most likely my Spyderco Enuff, as I like it more and more the longer I EDC it.

I'll go with what I've been carrying for the better part of the past decade or so.
Leatherman Pulse as my multitool.
Small Sebenza.
ARC "P" AAA light.

If you could only carry:

One Multitool OR One SAK
One flashlight
One folding knife or fixed

For the rest of your life (nothing else)- what would you carry and why?

Selfishly, this should help me figure out what I should be carrying too.

I don't need much since I work in an office.
Skeletool
The flashlight and knife are generally unnecesary in my world.

It is against the law to carry a tool where you are from? They are afraid you might fix the smurf out of something?

It´s in the greys - we are allowed to carry tools, and we are allowed to carry knives. But some sort of knives are prohibitted, and one of them is every knife that has a oho and locking blade. Oho or locking would be OK. And it´s OK if you have one of the reasons listed in the law, for example if you need it for work, not accepted is "i want to be prepared when i might need it".

So in case of a control it all comes down if they classify it as a tool, or as a knife. A construction worker, or a mechanic, will have better chances to get it accepted as a needed tool than a banker, accountant, or schoolbusdriver, ....
Have fun.

Bye,
Michael

Why? Its a pretty sensible law, helping to prevent the escalation of violence.

So if it takes two hands to open my knife there is no way I could use it as a weapon? Maybe someone has a forcefield that only repels lock blade knives?

Lets say for the sake of this discussion I am a criminal intent on doing nefarious things. Maybe felony robbery, oh wait it is against the law to carry a oho lockblade combo knife so I would not want to break the law? Well at least that one law but the rest of them I have no issues ignoring?

Many knife laws don´t make much sense the way they are.

For example - a 1,5" blade would be illegal here if oho and locking, but it´s OK to carry a fixed 4,5" blade (as long as it´s no 2 sharp sided dagger).

Most prohibiting knife laws don´t affect the crime planning criminals, but they do keep a lot of usually law abiding people from carrying knives - which minimizes the chance that they will act drunken or in anger, and later have to regret a stupid moment for the rest of their life. You notice that it works due to the main portion of knife attacks is made within the family/friends range, and with kitchen knives.
Have fun.

Michael

Problem 1 is that if a weapon is easily available its going to be used, so a drunken altercation will easier end with blood. Domestic violence ends in murder.
This applies to about 95% of murders where the victims are women or children.

A bunch of gang members goes to a party. Police stops them and decided that they don't need kitchen knifes etc. at a party and confiscated them.
Escalation of violence prevented.

Further applications for the criminal not keeping to the law:
You steal a wallet = theft.
You steal a wallet while carrying anything that could be considered a weapon = armed robbery.
Again, preventing escalation of violence.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

There may be some valid points about drunks and crimes of passion. So what is the plan for law abiding citizens who are the target of violent crimes?

As far as making some misswired unit decide to not do a crime because of the increase from robbery to armed robbery seems unlikely.

In some states in the US the penalty for murder can be death. A pretty serious penalty on the face of it yet people in them areas still commit the crime even with the knowledge of the penalty.

"A bunch of gang members goes to a party. Police stops them and decided that they don't need kitchen knifes etc. at a party and confiscated them.
Escalation of violence prevented."

This assumes the police have some reason to stop them in the first place. Are random searches without cause allowed where you are from?

I'm with Harley on this one.

In my opinion laws like those mainly hurt the law abiding citizens and act as a way to control the law abiding population however the government sees fit.
