Kershaw Starter question
on: December 08, 2014, 06:03:55 AM
Just got a Kershaw Starter and it came with pocket lint all in the handles and pivot. I bought it new from a reputable dealer.  That's another issue all together. Anyways I am wondering what kind of washers are used. I am wondering this because I want to wash the knife and dry it, but I do not have access to my air compressor anymore so I am wanting to dry it in the oven. I am just wanting to make sure every single piece of this knife is metal and I am not going to melt anything inside the knife. If anyone can help that would be very much appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Take it apart and see? And it would be easier to clean.

I was thinking about it. The blade is off center so I might be able to correct that if I take it apart.

Well that was a catastrophic failure. I took the clip off. Handle screws out. Then went to the pivot screw which I could not figure out how to get it out. Gave up. Put it back together. Cut myself in the process. Then completely stripped out one of the pocket clip screws.

  I still say we should all chip in and get him an amputation kit, just get it over with.......

Pics or it didn't happen.

We take it for granted that the good Cap'n cut himself with a new knife.  If he posted pics of a new toy and was NOT bleeding, that would be something different......

Nah. I have a bunch of folders to choose from. The Skline is in the $40 range. The starter was $16 and a new(ish) product so I wanted to see what they were all about. If I was going to spend around $40 I would of bought something else.

Nope. When I turn the side with the torx it just spins the whole thing.

Stupid suggestion but it's worked for me.

I've used a fat pencil with eraser to hold smooth pivot bolts so I could lose them .

Also Heat the fastener up so the lock tight will break free.

Also also :) red lock tight might hold the stripped clip screw . Put it in with a good amount lock tight and let it dry over night. It might hold.

I'm not going to try and take it apart again. I do not have any red, but did use some blue loctite on it.
