Multitool.org Facebook page- are you a member?
on: January 14, 2015, 02:31:38 PM
Someone over at the MTO page on FB asked me why is wasn't as active as the forum.  I had a few answers, but it occurred to me that with so many people on FB, it should be booming.  This leads me to the question, how many of us here are in the FB group?  And if not, why not?  What would you like to see over there?

I don't care for FB. I didn't even know there is a MTO FB page and now that I know, I will ignore it. I like the forum, its super, I don't need more channels to communicate.

I have 2 accounts, one for work (that can't be avoided) one for private use. I have ZERO friends, so FB sends me an email every week, telling me that I have more friends than I think .
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Facebook is for young social people who like to talk and are in constant search of a potential mate. I am old, autistic, image oriented and my mate for 30 years doesn't approve menage a trois. She is no jealous of inanimate objects like telescopes, microscopes, binoculars, rocks, toy soldiers, books, documentaries, electronics and stuff like that though, so specialty forums are halal and Facebook is haram. That's all.

I assumed the only point of the FB MTO group was to make people aware of this forum.  So its a one way funnel of traffic from FB -> MTO and not the other way.

I go on fb once a month for a few minutes, mainly to post some pictures for friends.

Also what many people, especially in the US and Canada, may not fully realise is that in many workplaces fb is blocked or frowned upon. Considering that most members here work it may not be possible/desirable for them to view the fb site, whereas a quick look on MTO.org is possible at various points during the day.
so, if the target audience for MTO is people under let's say 21 then fb would work. However even though there are plenty of young people here most members are 30 to 50 thus fb is not that popular with them.

Well, forum and FB page have different uses, I guess. One is skimmable, you can very easily see what threads ppl are talking about and it's a cool arcihve, too. To me, FB page is easier to access and and it's easier to post there and have -almost- instant response, since most of us have smart phones and tablets with us.

IMHO it's not a question of which one is better but how these two can be (or whether they should be) interconnected. For example, it should be possible to add a widget to the left where forum users can see what Facebook page users are talking about at the moment, so they can join in if they want to.

I'm part of the FB group, but not sure if I've even posted there.

This is kind of my thought on the FB page as well.  Far too often, when FB groups get bigger and more popular, they turn to crap, or have to have people monitor it constantly to keep the crap out, and boot the jerks that try and ruin it for others.

I'm quite happy to stay here, in the real MT.O home.

I don't use Facebook. I consider it another of the privacy scams. I have an account for "emergency use" in case I can't get hold of anyone via conventional means (such as when my phone died). Even when people link to stuff here that's on there, I don't follow the link ...

I don't bother with it too much, well apart from the friend requests from early to mid 20 year old LV bar girls. I havn't been to Vegas in looong time, probably before all them were born

I really have no idea how or why this started, I don't even have a profile picture of me.

Note to self, put up profile picture then perhaps they will leave me alone.

I know it's a scam, but social engineering is fun :)
