It's really surprising how well this things going over.

I guess I'd wear it but I wouldn't buy one.

It is growing on me, and the watch version would be great, but frankly I just don't have the $$$ to spend for the kewl factor.

There is another issue that will probably come up. Those types that are too stupid to own multitools, or someone not being careful ... is going to get their wrist caught. There is no safety quick release. Someone somewhere is going to get their wrist stuck and there's no quick release feature that can be used one-handed. Just hope that Leatherman is smart enough to put a warning label on the tool (and send me a free Tread w/ watch for mentioning this) so that don't land them in a law suit cause someone gets their hand mutilated or amputated.

:twak:  Seen a guy working on some appliances in a residential home that got their wrist caught in a precarious place. He was wearing one of those paracord survival bracelets with a metal oval screw link. His had was jammed up in there and the only option was to cut the paracord... yet he seemed more concerned of his paracord bracelet getting cut up than about his hand being stuck.

I posted that last week.

Just a heads-up guys, I handled and wore one today for about 10 minutes, really swinging my arm around and trying to get it to pull a hair on my arm, and nothing.  The president of Leatherman (who came up with the tool) has been wearing one since the first prototypes were made, and he said it doesn't pull any of his hairs at all.

How's the weight on the wrist? I heard somewhere it was like 5 oz?

He says 5 oz on the video above. That's like having a Skeletool on your wrist.

I think it's quite clever actually.
Do you void the warranty as soon as you swap links in/out?   :D

I think it might open new market niches for LM, which is good as we all would like them to stay in business.
And, if it is TSA compliant, like mentioned in the video review, it might be an alternative for some who need to fly and don´t carry checked luggage.

I hope the individual tool are useable and it is not only a novelty item.

ah oops I guess I should have watched that video  It was designed so you could swap them out, so I'm sure it's covered.

Hey y'all

Here's an interesting Tread fact for you....

I was just browsing the Leatherman website and I noticed that the Tread is Leatherman's most tool/function rich tool - Clocking in at a massive 25 functions
Second place goes to the Surge with a paltry 21
Third Place - Yep you guessed it! - The Tread again! This time the QM1 (watch) version with 20!

And before you say it - Yes I know y'all would prefer the Surge any day  :D
And let's not repeat all the 'Call those tools?' / 'They'll never work' / 'They have limited use'  ??? challenges on the Tread implements! ... unless you really have to of course!!  ;)  :)

Just an interesting observation.

Does that include artery severer, clothes shredder, eye watering hair puller, door handle snagger, bank balance wrecker, muck magnet, and girlfriend repellant, or does that take the total functions to 32?

Don't trust statistics that you haven't forged yourself...

Price per function
QM1: 25 USD
Skeletool: 13.55 USD (Wow, its more than twice as overpriced as the Tread)
Signal: 6.32 USD
Tread: 6 USD
Wave: 5.87 USD (you see compared to the wave its not that much overpriced)
Surge: 5.23 USD
Micra: 2.79 USD
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I quite like the look of the tread.
The problem with it for me is that because I'm in the UK it will:
1 cost too much (they tend to charge the same in GBP as they do in USD and the exchange rate is about 1.5)
2 have imperial box wrenches which won't fit any of our metric fastneners.

It seems they have quite a bit invested into this endeavour so I assume they will be pushing it big time. If it gets non MT people interested in Leatherman it could be great for them.

They will if they see it as a cool, 'must have', 'designer' accessory, that will enhance their image.

Some people spend a lot of money on their looks/image/appearances

I think this thread thing would be a big miss for Leatherman.
I mean whom they imagine would buy this thing?
Tons people would be more than happy to pay huge amount of money for the newest Electronics gadgets.
Do you know anyone willing to pay $165 for a set of screw drivers? I don't.

Agree and enhance is the keyword in your statement.
What thread does is    diminish.
