I remember reading about a guy (maybe in Fine Scale Modeler magazine) years ago that built a model of an Imperial Star Destroyer in his garage.  It was something insane, like 1/100 scale whi check meant that the thing was ten feet long or so.

He spent years working on it and it looked amazing, and I understand it as a hobby, but I have to wonder what the heck he's going to do with it when he's done?  Seems like it's taking up an awful lot of space, and once it's done..... well it kind of looks like it's just in the way.

I would donate it (or lend it) to a museum or local business but your right it would be a pink imperial elephant at home!

You'd have to pull the roof off the garage first!
