Schrade - oh where are they made?
on: February 26, 2015, 06:32:14 PM
I am looking at a Schrade Old Timer, it's priced quite cheaply so I am wondering if they are not made in the US anymore (maybe China now?) does anyone know? Thanks  :)

Taylor Brands LLC. All Chinese made and not of the high quality of the older USA made Schrades either.

I bought one of the small Stockman models off amazon for £14 or there abouts. It's ok,but no Rough Rider
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Hello,
You might be talking about the schrade old timer pocket or folding knives and the fixed blade knives which are carried along with the knife sheath.
If I need to pick some good EDC tools.
Then I would take my love leatherman multi tool wave and a flash light. Other are just a waste !!!

Thanks folks - I suspected it might be Chinese manufacture due to the low price. I think I'll give it a miss.  I've nothing against Chinese manufacture but I don't like traditional names ending up being made in China.  Thanks and cheers  :)

Surprisingly enough there are a few Schrade models made in the US, but none of the folders.  And coming from someone who has no issues with Chinese folders, Schrade's folders are crap.

Some are still made in the States...I did not know that.

I don't have much of the Taylor made stuff. What I do have is shockingly cheap and poorly made, especially when you compare it to the older USA Schrade company which no longer exists.

I agree, not everything made in China is junk.  :salute:

As far as I know the Schrade fixed blades with the "Extreme Survival" tag and using 1095 steel are made in the US.

Amici,
You can find some old awesome quality "Made in USA" Schrade's even those with the old serial #'s still laser engraved on the bolsters if you look hard enough.. The LB7 is and Bear Claw are both still quite runners up to the Beloved Buck 110 and either would be my second choice if a Buck 110 wasn't available for my EDC needs..

Cheers,
Serge
