You could ask MTo members to send a coin from their country. Or something else...

This is a great idea that I will adopt as my new hobby.

In that vein I am going to need each MTO member to send me $20 in change from there respective countries.

No Problem, its $100 for shipping (you can send it through PayPal)...
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Big-Uns magazines...   :D

Knives will probably be a natural progression

You can collect rough rider models to keep the cost reasonable,or some older USA Schrade, Camillus form carboot sales etc.

Or, toy cars.

Lego miniatures of Star Wars or Star Trek... any star you like.

Super heros miniatures.

Models (cars, ships, airplanes). You can built them toghether.

Fountain pens.

Key chains.

I collect Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars, Lego, knives and a couple different comic books (fan of Star Wars, Conan and Red Sonja).

I also regularly purchase strategy/hobby level board games but I consider this slightly different from 'collecting' as it's not something where I'm hunting down certain numbers of a series or acquiring things just to go on a shelf or in a box.

Dust, lint, toenail clippings...

No, not really. Small dragons, either figurines or stuffed. I think I'm collecting holster, knife sheaths, etc, until I find a set that works, but it is isn't intentional.

A small collection of foreign coins.

Does a library of 600 books count?

I used to be really into optics.
Have a fair few vintage monoculars, binoculars, spotting scopes, telescopes etc.
Also began collecting hand tools, key rings, books, and finally  MTs & SAKs. The problem with collecting anything is that money and storage space quickly run out. Thanks to ebay and the likes there are scores of sellers just waiting to sell you their stuff. The real trick is knowing when to stop and say no - my biggest failure

I've been hoarding for the past couple of decade (hoarding is a much more honest term than collecting) I'm now in the process of trying to get rid of most of it - but not SAKs & MTs and it's proving to be incredibly time consuming - mainly because I'm trying to get some of the money back.

Collecting is fun - but can very quickly become an obsession.
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

I've always been collecting something, stickers, toys, lighters, cigarette boxes, surprises (the kind you find in bubblegum packages), coins, stamps, comics, books etc.

Now, apart from saks/knives /flashlights the only collections I'm really proud of is my rock collection (THEY'RE MINERALS MARIE!!!  >:( ) and I still occasionally get some and the Real Bugs collection.. the only one I actually completed from start to finish:

Some of you gave already beat me to it...Hot Wheels. Case in point was the Bugatti Veyron. I think Matel only had a lisance for it for about six months. NIB examples are going for fifty quid plus on eBay in Britain. Not a bad return for two quid down :tu:
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

There are also digital collections that might cost nothing in terms of space and money. I've got a big collection of music (mostly rock and classical), eboks (mostly science and comics), documentaries (mostly space and life sciences), and art (mostly impressionism and nudes) I would need a tycoon's house to fit in if it was printed in vinyl, paper, dvds and canvas, not to mention the multimillions they would cost.
Now I have the microscope I wish I had this bug collection.
But I got an idea for another mini collection I wish since I was a kid. Matchbox cars of the people, you know, Beetle, Mini, Inoccenti, Autobianchi Abarth, BMW Iseta, Messerscmidt, Cinquecento, 2CV, 4L, Atos, MX5, CRX, Alphasud, 124, Transporter, etc. There's a lot to it.
I always like to show off my collections, please forgive.

Interesting, when I was back in like my single digits I collected insects, maybe had about a dozen of them. Also a bunch of matchbox cars, noting for collecting just playing with.
As for digital I have Pinterest I think I'm in the 4k range, the wife is well over 15k if not 20k.
I have two walking sticks, one that I bought and one that I made from scratch, that one still has yet to be finished, it needs a wrist strap but I don't want to drill threw it but have to, other then that I spent a lot of time on it! I wanted to make another, but one that I can use if needed, but don't care about ruining, like a rake stick wrapped with paracord as a handle grip.. I got a pic of my two but gotta find it.
Other then that I must say the wife and I have collected one thing, not really as a hobby, but as a must have..
It started as vhs, maybe around 200, but then, well, vhs took a crap, so it started all back up as DVD, and has switched over to blu ra.. We're in the 8's, hundreds that is..
JR

Found them

This one I bought. But I did some work to, it didn't have the handle or sling nor the ball compass that I drilled into the top, also behind the handle I wrapped there is a bunch of survival junk..

This one is the one from scratch, did the leather handle, carved my tinted JR from back then into the top, and about 20 coats along with a unique redish color to it.

I collect scars. Does that count?

I wouldn't recommend it to others though.

Ha!

I was visited by two co-workers when I took a tumble off the old motorcycle. Surprisingly enough, I do tend to be a private person in real life, and it is rare that I entertain guest. I was a bit taken aback when they both exclaimed my house was like a museum and started asking me about this item and that. I had a heck of a time getting rid of them if memory serves me right.
